Camp Croft, South Carolina
US Army Infantry Replacement Training Center

Service Club #1 was located near the main entrance to the camp. The landmark yellow and black water town is seen in the background of almost ever photo of the club. Service Club #2 was located in the 10th Regimental area for the use of black servicemen.

The club featured a 9000-volume library, cafeteria, and ballroom. "Attractive girls from in an around the .. area" attended the dances and the orchestras were composed of enlisted men. When not in use, the ballroom provided space for Ping-Pong, cards, checkers, chess and other diversions. The club was also a place to meet other soldiers, receive visitors, telephone home, write letters (free stationary was provided), or just lounge about.

Building #17, on Headquarters Hill is reserved for entertainments for the entire Camp. Activities at the Service Club will be posted on the Company bulleting boards weekly and any event affecting the Battalion will receive added publicity through announcements by the first sergeants and notice on the Recreation Hall bulletin board. Class "A" uniform is required at all times. The Service Club is equipped with a library, a Coffee Shop, a Cafeteria, writing tables and comfortable chairs for the reception and entertainment of visitors; and other conveniences for the comfort and relaxation of the enlisted men. Miss Lucille Davis is the director and is in attendance there at all times. Mrs. Floride Cox is recreation hostess. Miss Margaret Roper cafeteria hostess. Miss Ava Smith is the librarian. Lt. William Spencer is the Service Club officer.
Attention is invited to the long distance telephone service at the Service Club. Attendants of the telephone Company are present between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 9:30 P.M. daily and 1:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. on Sundays.
