Leonard Hancock

submitted June 2008

"I don't have any stories on [Uncle] Leonard while at Croft. My family didn't talk about him much when I was growing up. I only saw him a handful of times, typically around the holidays.

Uncle Leonard was born in Williston, SC in 1906. As a child, he witnessed the hardships that come with sharecropping; and with the case of his uncles, gambling and bootlegging. That said, his family moved to Rochester, NY in the early 1920's. The family had a bad taste in their collective mouths about SC."

[Leonard Hancock was a resident of NJ when he was drafted into service in September of 1941 at the age of 36.]
