Admiralty V-Class destroyer ordered from John
Brown, Clydebarik with 9th Order of the 1916-17 Build Programme
in June 1916. The ship was laid down on 27th September 1916 end launched on
18th August 1917 as the
1st RN warship to carry the name. Between the wars she served in the Atlantic
and Mediterranean Fleets and in
1938 was attached to the 1st Anti-Submarine Flotilla at Portland. After a
successful WARSHIP WEEK National
Savings campaign in November 1941 she was 'adopted’ by the civil community of
Nuneaton in Warwickshire.
