Modified Admiralty W-Class destroyer ordered from John Brown, Clydebank with 13th Order of the
1918 Build Programme in January 1918. The ship was laid down on 17th May 1918
and launched on 19th March 1919 as the 1st RN warship to carry the name. Build
was completed on 17th September 1919. Between the wars she served in the
Atlantic and Mediterranean Fleets. In 1938 the ship was part of the Local
Flotilla at Portsmouth. Following a successful WARSHIP WEEK National Savings campaign
in March 1942 she was adopted by the
civil community of Stratford North in
Warwickshire.

HMS VERITY remained in Reserve until 1946 when she was
placed on the Disposal List. She was sold to BISCO in 1946 for demolition by J Cashmore and arrived
in tow at the breaker's in Newport on 14th September 1947

This ship in common with many
other Atlantic escorts was one of the 'unsung' veterans of the sea war in the Atlantic. It should be
remembered that 70% of all convoys had an unscathed passage but this was possible due to vastness of
the ocean and the constant vigilance of ships companies.
