Modified BLACK SWAN-Class Sloop ordered from Demy of Dumbarton on 8th December 1942 under  the 1941 Build Programme. The ship was laid down on 21st September 1944 and launched on 20th December 1945 She was the 7th RN ship to bear the name, introduced in 1801 and previously used by a River Gunboat sold after WW1. Build was completed on 9th September 1946.

HMS SNIPE served on the America and West Indies Station after working up in 1946. The ship stayed on that Station, apart from return to UK for re-commissioning until 1952 when she joined a Frigate Flotilla in the Home Fleet. After attending the Coronation Review in 1953 she was went into the Reserve Fleet at Devonport. The ship was later transferred to the Barry Reserve Fleet Sub-Division and then placed on the Disposal List for demolition by J Cashmore at Newport,, Monmouth. She arrived in tow at the breaker’s yard on 2nd August 1960.
