Sn-3 Considering I wasnt wearing in clothes at the time I guess it could have been quite a sight for the UPS guy that showed up.

A yurt is a large circular Mongolian tent. The Mongols still live in them. Actually their name is Ger. Yurt is a turko-russian word meaning shack or shanty ger means sacred space or home.

I have a few gers but I made them from pvc pipes. This is a real honest to god wood traditional Mongol ger.

went to to the shop last night where my bro, and I work on old iron, and my bros' daughter's boyfriend was beating his chest on how "BAD" his truck was (96 extended cab 4x4 "stock" with like 96 gazillion miles on it, but "clean"...
... he's one of those spoiled "Mama's boys" that has everything spoon fed to him...
he starts his usual crap about my car, and now my truck, and this, and that, and then gets cocky, and says "well go get a chain, and we'll see who's... blah, blah, ( I'm hot enough by now that I 'm on my way to get a "good" one already)...
...I backed up, and hooked up before he could blink, ( and was in 4 wheel lock low before he finished back peddling)...
... he realized that his mouth wrote a check that his ass couldn't cover...slid into his truck, and someone said "ready, set, go", and before he could spit I was dragging him backwards down the alley at about 30 mph spinning a dust cloud that engulfed his entire truck...
...10 seconds later it was all history as he emerged from the cloud of dust, tail just tucked between his legs, and red faced...
... come to find out, he didn't know what 4 wheel lock low meant....
...HE DOES NOW....
... sees, you... move... that... little... lever... there.... to the side, and...... then move it to this position......., there now you get it.......
he was real quiet for the next 20 minutes... pop that bubbly stuff, and I'll have a mug......
...I'm gonna have a shirt made that says..." I FIX DODGES...(AND ON THE BACK)... BUT, I BUILD CHEVY'S...........YEA, PASS THE PEANUTS.....

Nope, not my heritage. I studied Mongolian Anthropology extensively though and now belong to a historical society (basically a big party) where I "live" like a Mongol. Did that in school as well to try and understand that culture better.
I know more about the Mongols, Huns and Sycthians than anyone should ...but I find it fun and fascinating and anyway..gers are BIG and I hate those little bubble tents.

Gary,

Most of the yurts you see for sale from companys *do* break down..but not easily. Most are used for permament structures. The traditional ones..and the ones still used in Mongolia, they still live in gers..in fact even in Uulaanbaatur (the capitol) you will find gers all over the city..stuck near tall buildings, do break down for transport.
I wouldnt call it easy...its not say as easy as a dome tent..but its not incredibly difficult either.
Basically you set out the khana (walls) into a large circle and set the door..lash it together and tie the belly band around (this is a long cord that encircles the khana...then you have someone hold the tono (roof ring) up and stick the oyin (roof poles) into the tono and rest on the the top of the khana. Then you add the second belly band and then tighten both of the bands. Then you drag the cover over and hang the door cover.
There it is all done.
In the next few years I am planning on buying land somewhere in the middle of nowhere to put a permament ger on..for a vacation house and possibly as a retirement home.
I feel incredibly good inside a ger. Its very relaxing for some reason.

...last year when I had the Ford, and thumped him...( thats, found on road dead/ fix or repair daily/ funkin over rated dodge)...he had another ext cab (92) that he "lost" this winter when it burned while traveling west to snowmobile, (saved the sleds though), caught fire off a transmission line leak, totaled it, so "Mama" signed on to get this one...
... so now with a 4 year newer truck, and me just getting this one in late Feb., and just putting it together, he still figured that mine was easy pickin's...
... In the two months, I've had to really check everything over well for safety(heh,heh)...
...not opting for stock, 9 to 1 flat tops, double roller T/C, and just a littttttle bump in the cam does make a difference, so my old "88" with a fresh motor(470 miles on it) just smoked him...
... after said in done, let him jump in mine, and punch it once down the alley, and when second gear kicked in,( it does shift in strong for a 700 r) it put his head to the headrest portion of the seat((still in lock low)), he backs up, and gets out shaking his head, and his friend says"what the hell was that" cause when it shifted, it just grabed, and lurched forward after hitting 2nd like a scalded cat,... I don't know if the kid before me had a shift kit put in or not, but it was worth every second last night to see him pink faced, and a lot more humble...

Busier than ever. Minn/St Paul new home starts are up 6% each month for the last six months, terrible recession we are in, if it gets any worse i am going to have to start cloning myself to keep up! I guess it is good to see the beautiful minn/wis weather is hold though, rain and snow and sleet every weekend! Hell the opener is next weekend and i think the trout will be wearing parkas!

Take care brother! I took a long weekend, 4 days, the wife just made a big pan of lasagna, the kids are running and playing and i am going to down a few beam and sevens and just relax! Peace!

Motorcycle Gangs have a gun battle in Nevada. The town of Bullhead was hosting a Motorcycle enthusiast weekend when two rival gangs started fighting.
Three or four dead. Approximately 20 in the hospitals.

Well at least the news will shift from Israel and the middle east. Now it will be on gun control and Harley Gangs.

Too Bad that a few jerks will make it bad for everyone else.

We?ll try again. Went for a ride with the group last Sunday and my carb got to too cold so I had to hobble home popping and missing most of the way. An 8500 ft. pass is a bit much for this time of year and that was one cold mammy jammer. Anyway, the little gal that rides in our group just got a new Indian so she is being a snot. Today, I got some flowers and a ?T? shirt. It reads, Harley Davidson made of tin, ride them out and push them back in. The word ?Indian? is there of course. We?ll see about all that. I?ll have a Bud then get on home and tune the tune. Just back from the HD (hundred dollar) store and got all the tune up goodies, fresh oil, filter and air cleaner so I?m good to go now.

I've started planning a campout for either later this year or sometime next year, that is gonna be a little more centrally located. If any of ya'll are interested, go over to the Vietnam page and give me your thoughts. The location being planned is my family's farm in central Texas, near Austin. Lots of room for camping, B-B-Q (Texas style of course) and the obligatory bonfire and stories. And, yes, there's plenty of room for the ger, Hoylin.
I think we can get a better turn-out by having a more central location, but you guys and gals let me know.

Rainier twenty years ago. Nothing like sleeping on a Glacier in 30- below temp. Invigorating to say the least. We could do a little polar bear swimming in the evenings. Now that would be a great campout! I know Blake and Drywall would put spiked tires on their motorcycles and have motorcycle races. A great time would be had by all.

I don't think many people would come at that time of year, now you take mid summer and it's beautiful up here. but then we'd have to make sure that we have plenty of winter clothing for those Southern Boys ;) I don't know if they could handle temps in the 80's and 90's with 100% humidity

I'm just trying to open up new experiences for those Southern Boys. You really haven't lived until you have done Ice Fishing when its 30- degrees. Shivering yourself to sleep as you camp in the snow, now that is really living life on the edge. Those fair weather boys must experience it.

Great Day here...We are going up to almost 90 today...Maybe a little to warm for me, but it is better than the beginning of the week...it was struggling to get to 50...

Today starts the holiday, for some, I am on call all weekend, but off on Monday..I am having a BBQ on Monday, so we better have nice weather...

We were talking to our son about going down to the VFW this weekend and having a drink to each family member who is/has served.

Start with 2 sons and a daughter in law, go to Darrel and his brother, then his Dad and mine, my Mother's brothers and his Mother's brother and sister in law.

That's 15 and we just don't drink that much any more, never mind going back another generation.

Guess we'll have to do our serious drinking here.

A friend of mine went to Rolling Thunder in DC, and stated that there was over 20, 000 bikes, there... It was his first time there on his bike....He said he sure enjoyed that experience....

We ended the day at the local VFW where the 3 of us looked at all the archives and talked of all the family activity there and things not often discussed.

Spent an okay weekend trying to keep breathing..I think I am getting over whatever this is and the hospital gave me a nifty inhaler thing thats the size of a shotgun (well seems like it)

Paul and I spent a lot of time on the porch remembering the men and women in our families that gave their all for our country while I tried really hard not to get completely pissed off at the sales ads that kept coming our way. When did this become go buy a new truck day!?!?

Anyway...been a long night, been a long weekend. I could use some coffee too! Heck just make up another pot ..I'll drink it. :D

Had a long five day weekend and now it's back to work. Did nine cemetaries, two Veterans monuments, one police dept. flag dedication and the local community Memorial Day remeberance yesterday with the Honor guard. Five in the morning till about three thirty in the afternoon. Worth every minute of it. I better have a couple beers sarge, just to get my strength back. Hope you all had a good weekend.

...rain just stopped here, and the sun is about to peek out, could be good /would be good, go ahead, head out to the shore, and start casting......

...usually head to the river, or grandma's pond on the farm, pond's 150' around, spring fed, and I've pulled 23"ers out everytime i fish it, course I put um back to catch the next time, saw a pickeral about 32-33"s swiming around, and it's not native to a pond they dug 40 years ago, and stocked with a few bass, and sunnies, but haven't seen it this year though...
..."Purple culprits", no weight, small trout hook, light line, and texas rigged works best for me....
