OK People, Here's the Drill

The weekend of April 20--21 will be an orientation/education period for those who are serious about the task at hand.

Some of you may know the "Tam," but most of us don't. The goal is to know how all of the ship's systems function. Not just talk about them, but start up, run and shut down. We need video guys and note takers. Someone to dig into the engineering log room for any important data. We should sound the fuel tanks. WHOSE GOT A SOUNDING TAPE?

QMs to the bridge and above; BMs all weather decks and machinery; Cooks and bakers, to the galley; MKs/ENs and EMs to the engineroom and motorroom; shitfitters to the heads (plumbers will do); all others, stand by. There is some cleaning gear aboard, but no tools!

Meet at 0900 at the entrance to Tidewater Yacht Service, 1020 Key Highway. You can see the huge "Domino Sugar Works" sign, just behind TAMAROA.

If you are going to sleep aboard, bring sleeping gear, change of clothes, etc. For those who would rather stay at a motel, we'll be looking for a motel close by.

Any other questions you need answered, give me a call (h) 804-273-0247
(cell) 804-513-1498.

I am pleased to announce that I have just been appointed the official historian for the Tamaroa Maritime Foundation. In that regard, I will be collecting anecdotes from sailors on the Tamaroa from 1943 to 1946 when she was the USS Zuni and from 1946 to 1994 as the Tamaroa.

If anyone who reads this served on the Tamaroa-Zuni or knows someone who did, please email me at coastie166@aol.com. I am interested in any incident that you can date and verify that happened while you were on board her. SAR cases, drug cases, Russian bording cases, humourous cases, you name it I want it. We are putting together a chronology of events for the life of the Tamaroa-Zuni. Photos would help as well annotating those events

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill Doherty
