One of my best friends growing up (Jim Brenn) had a father who was in the marines. Charles Brenn. He was also my Sunday School Teacher when I was in High School. Mr. Brenn had been with the Marines in the Pacific during WW II. Was severly wounded on Iwo Jima. Never talked much about his experiences in WW II. He worked for the Department of Corrections in the Walla Walla state penitentary. He was a big tough man and as Captain of the Guards he was well respected.

He could kid around and joke but when he was serious we all listened. He died a few years ago. He gave me and a lot teenagers a lot of good moral advice and direction that has served us well in our lives. There have been a few guys who joined the Marines because they wanted to be like Charles Brenn.

Just a thinking.

In my 20 years in the Navy the finest officer I had the pleasure to serve under was a Marine. He was a mustang and retired as a Major (R.B. McKenzie).

Most (not all) but most of the men I have met from the various branches of the service are wonderful men that I truly can look up to and admire. These men have been at times in my life good friends, lovers and the closest I could ever have to a brother. One that stands out though, Bill..is a Marine. Gotta be one of the neatest men I have ever met, and I am proud that I am his friend.
