Have been on Veterans.com for a couple of years, saw notice that most of the old guys are over here now. Thought I would see whats up here.
Looks a little complicated, but will learn it I am sure.
I am 61, spent ten years in USN and retired as federal civil servant after 32 years( worked for 3 different branches of government). I am now a reservist with Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA) and get called out on disasters when they need me. Just returned from Ice Storm disaster in Oklahoma City.
I am away from home a lot so kinda lose touch with the forum sometimes.

... have you been back there at all,...they pulled "politics, and the Veterans issues segments yesterday for ever it seems....
...I think it's about ready to cover itself in dirt, and ...well...call it , wasting away due to "the moderaters letting the inmates(all of who we were familar with) drive it down, and away"...
... I wish that the 100+ Veterans that were there, would have hung on long enough for them to make it here...
...how the fishin'...

I still read the vets.compages but I got this new computer and the whole historychannel.com thing refused to recognize me. I finally got registered with a slight change in my name but vets.com never let me post. Seeing what still goes on I haven't pursued the issue.

Navynam,

Tis a good group here about and you?ll enjoy the interesting times. Just remember to wear old clothes when ya go over to the Saloon. They don?t get in food fights yet but it could happen at any moment. The Sarge in charge kind of likes thing loose and wild over there, so bring your own food ammo supply, diving mask, inflatable base ball bat, swim fins, etc. LOL

39mto39G: don't make me any older then I alread feel....(-:
I enlisted in the Navy in 1957 at age 17.
I went to Vietnam in 1967 aboard a destroyer, some of the grunts seemed pleased to see us when we gave them fire support. Was there for the 68 TET... thought I had come to the worlds largest fireworks show.... "Whole Damn country was lit up"
Seatjerker: I talked with Bits several time on the old veterans.com and a yahoo site we both worked. I live in central Louisiana, kinda live in the boonies... was setting on my porch a few days ago and a 5 foot snakes crawls up on the railing. My wife was not happy.

Anyway thank ya'll for the welcome and look forward to telling some sea stories.
I lived over seas a lot of years in far east and Africa and I have lived lots of places in U.S. also. Retired from civilian at Navy base in Keyport Washington in 1993
Regards.

I think I remember posting to you on the old site.
I was on the USS John W. Thomason DD760 out of San Diego.
Yes, Bangor was only a mile or so from NUWC Keyport where I worked.
I lived in Quilcene on the Olympic Penn.
I do not hunt, so the deer figured that out and there were 7 to 9 dear sleeping in my front yard all the time during the day.
I live in the country here in LA also, but do not see very many dear, hunters keep them all shot up. There is a 5 deer limit per hunter here soooooo.....
We spent most of our time on the firing line off of the central highland coast in Vietnam. Made a few runs up to the DMZ area when things got too hot up that way. Chased some CVA's off the north Vietnam coast once in a while. Raced the Chinese once to get a downed pilot off Hinan Island but they won.
Where is this saloon people are talking about, I do not see it listed on the site?? Could use a cold one.
Glad to see Marinevet is on this site, always respected is postings.
Regards
Edgar

AS the unofficial, self-appointed, unwelcomed theropist for this group I welcome you. My speciality is warped sick humor this site is really one big group theropy session, which keeps me very busy. I also try to help out the marines, but they have no sense of humor.

Seriously, this a great group of guys. Welcome aboard.!

Keith:D

P.S. Beware of Harvey = that Bits fellow. He's a marine you know.
