Check out the unit patch avatars that are now available.

Good job, Bern. Thanks.

P.S.
I know first hand that if you have an image that you want downsized to be an avatar or signature image that Bern, being the delightful young lady that she is, will cheerfully do it for you.
Thanks Again, Bern.

Could I get a 25th, Tropic Lightening Division patch attached to my name? Will I need to send you a photo of it? Any help/feedback would be great.

Thanks,
Andy

There's one in there for you, Bro. Click on "USER CP" bar at top of page; click on "EDIT OPTIONS"; scroll down page and click on "CHANGE AVATAR"; click on "LAST PAGE" of avatar list; click dot next to Tropic Lightning; click on "SUBMIT MODIFICATIONS". It's a done deal, Bud.

I was the one that tracked these down and sent them to Bernadette to downsize to avatars. I wouldn'ta forgot ya, my friend:D . I sent more, but I guess some of them didn't look too cool when she shrunk them. Most of them were badges. I'm going to look for some others. Also, more unit patches.

To you other guys: Let me know of any specific ones. I'll try to find them, and get them to Bernadette.

I getting tired of this 13th Century Monk Avatar ese . How do you do this Avatar stuff ?

Can I make a group Avatar, of the Gumball Machine "Homies" that I kept ? I see on the Web that some Latino Supermarkets and supermarkets here and there have decided not to sell "Homies" (little Chicano mini-figurines) --- could increase Street Gangs, I guess. Wierd deal is that in my very Middle to Upper Middle Class city in the Bay Area, my Super Market has a "Homie" Gum Ball Machine --- not much Gang activity here. Although they do have Santa Rita County Jail across the highway, a place where one of my half brothers is quite familiar with --- turned to low level crime long before Gumball Machine "Homies" came out.

If not a "Homie" (gotta get rid of that 13th Century Monk looking Avatar I have been using), how can I make my own Avatar --- don't like them yellow face things too much and my Army unit's patch is one of the worst looking ones in the World.

Beau, you can use any avatar you like by uploading it through your user cp. Just go to the user cp at the top of the forums page and then click edit options. Go to the bottom of the page and click change avatar. Make sure you say yes to the use custom avatar box and upload your avatar from your computer. There are only two guidelines for custom avatars, they must not be larger then 50x50 pixels and they must not be larger then 2k.

Thank you for sending those in Frisco, that was a great idea and we look forward to having more. The ones that did not make it were just too low quality after reduction to use. The best pictures can usually be made by a high quality photo of the real thing rather then an artists impression. Some, for example the 1st Cav patch, have so few details though that a drawing will work out. We will do our best to publish any you send our way :)

Lookin' good. I sent Bern somemore images to play with, and there was a Coast Guard image amongst them. I'm guessing Bern will get to them this weekend. I know she has no life:D :D .

I'm glad these took off so well, and gave people some pride in who they are and where they've been.

As you were home frisco, staring at your computer looking for those avatars to get done, I was eating steak for breakfast & chillin in Washington at the campout. hehe
I will gladly get any avatar done for those who desire one. There are some limitations on making them as far as detail, however I will give what ever you have a trial run.
Send any requests for avatars to my email address: bernbenjamin@hotmail.com pease include (attach) the highest quality graphic you can.

I recently sent a pic of the CIB, and would like to have it moved directly under my 'handle' instead of at the bottom. Can one of you computer geniuses fix fer me? Thanks in advance!

Bernadette has to shrink it down to an avatar size, and put it with the other avatars before you can use it as such. I've been sending her alot of the military images that are available, including some badges. She loses quality on some of them when she shrinks them, but she finally got a decent CMB and jumpwings. I've sent her a couple CIBs, and I think the last one turned out pretty good, but she didn't think so. I asked her to use it anyway. Maybe she can use yours for a better image. I recently sent her somemore images, but she hasn't got around to them yet. I'm sure she'll see this, and let us know what's up.

You can do it yourself as a "Custom Avatar", but I couldn't do it. I had Steve [82 Rigger] helping me also, but to no avail. Finally had to get Bernadette to do it for me.

I think SuperScout's turned out O.K., and could be put with the other avatars. I was running out of other CIBs to send you to try. I knew you didn't forget about me. I'll keep looking for other images for you, once in awhile.

Ok I added the CIB to the avatar list. If we can find a better image to replace it we will switch it. That one is hard to reduce because the size can only be 50x50 pixels max and it is a long picture making the height very small when the width is brought in to 50 pixels.

Can you slide a CIB under my signature like you did for Super Scout? It would be much appreciated! By the way, when were you on WMEC-166? I spent about 6 months on her in 1974-75 as a Law Enforcement Advisor from U.S. Customs when a future Commandant of the Coast Guard was her skipper. STILL HAVE my USCGC TAMAROA Zippo! I bunked with the Engineer Warrant who I was told, was the same person who sank her at Curtis Bay when she was in drydock with the engine room cut open. They apparantly promoted him to Warant and sentenced him to "Life on the TAMAROA" to repair all the damage he did to the wiring systems. LOL

Murph,
I was on the Tam in 1967-68. That makes me an olf fart I guess. The guy who sunk her was not on her then. She drowned in the dry dock in 1963. If you go to www.Jacks Joint.com you can check out a story of the sinking by Jim Perkins who was closely associated with the sinking. Its a good read!

Bill

since it's obvious nobody else is going to. I've been around boats all my life, but you're gonna have to explain how you can sink aboat / ship in DRYDOCK ?!? I can understand sinking a vessel after you flood the dock to re-float the boat, but then it's no longer a drydock, right ? :D
Anyway, that would definitely NOT be something you'd want listed on your resume !:p

was the Tams most enduring nickname. She was in dry dock undergoing a lot of work. One of the items was replacing engines. Consequently her hull had holes cut into her side to facilitate the removal of the engines.

A bosun's mate striker came back from liberty one night and decided to have a little fun. He opened up the valves that flooded the dry dock.

Water flooded the dock and entered the boat through the holes cut for the engines. The quartermaster realized there was a problem and ran through the ship ordering everyone to abandon ship. Naturally everyone was a bit perplexed but those on board got off before she flipped over on her side.

There was about 3 million dollars worth of damage.

We spent some time out in squid zone 1 & 2 in some really bad October weather. She rode like a bathtub. My first two weeks on her were miserable as I was so seasick that I was afraid I was going to die. The third week I was afraid that I was going to live. I bunked with the Warrant who had been the one to open the valves in the drydock at Curtis Bay in 1963. He was still replacing things like fans and other small electrical appliances that had been ruined by the salt water that flooded her engine room. We were in the cabin on the reefer flat. The room was constantly ventilated by fresh air from the bilges. Wonderful way to get your sea legs. The one thing that reqally got to me once I could eat again, was that with 6 Officers and 2 Customs Advisors on board we had to eat in shifts as the Wardroom was only big enough to seat 4 people comfortably. My partner and I eventually decided to eat on the mess deck. The company was better and the chow just as good.
