I just read the notes from both campouts and looked at the pics from the west coast campout. Man, am I sorry I couldn't make it !!!:(
Judging from the comments, both campouts were a major success and the tie-in call must have been something special. I sure am glad to hear everyone had such a terrific time. I will definitely have to find a way to make it to the next one, providing there is another one. Maybe we can plan one somewhere closer to the middle of this big country so more of us can make it. Heck, if we get enough folks intersted in meeting in the middle, I'll even volunteer the location - the family farm just outside of Austin, TX. (Actually, it's in Giddings, TX, but I doubt if any of ya'll will know where that's at, so Austin being the nearest "big" town.) got 40 aces of oak and mesquite trees and a few "cow pi's" to watch out for, but plenty of room for a godd ol' fashion hoe-down !
We wouldn't want to do this in the summer months (heat & humidity are terrible !!!), but the late spring or fall would be beautiful weather months. And, Exlrrp, we're still close enough for you to make a side trip to the cajun country (Southern Louisianna).:p

I think it is a great idea. Not only is it central to the US but it is close to my two favorite kinds of food, Tex-Mex and Cajun.

for me. I 've ridden to Dallas before so I'm used to the ride. Only problem I see is that a weekend just wouldn't be long enough for all the stories to get told.:D

now all we have to do is decide on the timeframe. do we want to trry for later this year, say in October, or go for next year so time ? The April time frame is really good for mild weather, as is the October to mid Novenber. May to September is usually too humid and hot to be any fun outdoors, at least down this way. However, I'm open for suggestions.
also, the homestead has plenty of room for tent or dry RV camping (no electicity, water hook-ups or sewage), but there are oplenty of motel rooms in town (about 10-12 miles away). There are plengty of eating places and lots of selections, for those who don't like Tex-Mex  .
I think a good old-fashioned Texas B-B-Q on Saturday night would be good, with beef brisket and ribs, along with some potato salad and ranch beans...OK, gotta go now, I've done gone and made myself hungry !!!!:D
Anyways, ya'll let me know what you think and if you're really interested, I'll start working on the logistics. As far as having enough time for all the stories, I think we'll okay, as long as we keep Drywall and SN-E3 from telling theirs until last !!!:D Of course, if exlrrp (James) comes down, all bets are off !:p

Count me in , I'll ride down with xgrunt. Need a good bike camping trip. It's embarassing how much "stuff" I took to the east coast campout in the truck and trailor. April would work best for me but I am open. My bitnam LTC lives in Austin too. Smiling already. Welcome home.

to get us all together! Also the Texas Bar-B-Q sounds gooooood!
Razz, maybe a few of us could shoot over to Ft. Hood and check out the old Division?
The family farm sounds good........would truly be a "Funny Farm" with all of us there.
Count Deb and I as very interested.

is still there, but the base is closed to virtually all visitors, due to the 9/11 fiasco. However, lots of the "old" eating / meeting places are still there and still over-charging just like the ol' days. I was on the base in late 2000, doing a some off-roading with my 4x4 club. The base let us use some of the more "agressive" terrain in the tank training grounds. Those tank drivers were really amazered to see what properly equiped "civilian" Jeeps can do. especially when the army has put those same areas off-limits to their own Hummers, because of too much vehicular breakage and body damage !
but enough aboutb that. It seems thatt he time frame of April is a good concensus, so I'll begin working towards that end. I'll also start a new thread to remind everybody around the late December / early January time frame.
If anybody's got any ideas for making the campout an even more successful, please feel free to PM me or post a note on the General or VN forums. I'll do my best to monitor these pages.

Your Hill Country Cousin checkin' in! Can't do April, as a bunch of us will be at Ft Benning for a reunion there, but Fall works for me. If you have anything that faintly resembles a pit, I'll do some ribs like we had in March, or maybe I'll just load up the pickup and bring my own.
Maybe we need to get another batch of 'stars' to hand out to the guys for making this trip!

in a very special place. I truely felt honored to be invited and accepted by your guys. I had a wonderful time listening to each one recount their stories and memories.
If you can't do April, then we just may have to have the campout in October. In all honesty, the time will be determined by a majority vote, but if you can't make it in person, I'll see to it you're there in spirit ! Maybe I'll tie you in by phone like they did for the campout earlier this year, between the easyt and west coasts.
I'll definitely have a pit or a couple of smokers / grills for the brisket. Shoot fire, we may just have to schedule an early run to your place to pick up some of your brisket ! That was some good eatin' !
As far as more stars go, I was thinking about an award (probably more than one) for the best story and most heavily laden BS story too ! I can probably go ahead and engrave SN-e3's name on at least one of them, according to the reports I've heard from the west coast campout gang :D !!
