Today, June 14th marks the second assault on Port Hudson. 116 guns delivered the pre-dawn barrage. The 4th Wisconsin and the 8th New Hampshire attacked the eastern side of Priest Cap. A lieutenant of the 8th New Hampshire prepared his men, "Most of us will be killed, but not a man shall falter." The 4th Wisconsin lost 64% of her men that day. The 8th New Hampshire lost 130 of 217. May their souls rest in peace.
