I was lying in the 6th CC in Cam Ranh Bay recovering from my wound. That night NVA Sappers crossed the one strand of Concentina on the beach and began satchel charging the hospital. If I remember correctly there was like 2 or 3 killed and 98 of us recieved Purple Heart number 2 or more. I was lucky and not one of them. It was another "helluva night".

One of the reasons I remember it so well..........it's my birthday!

Happy Birthday from Uncle Ho!

On Aug. 5th I got wounded (first time). Three years later got married on the 7th of Aug. I think they dropped the bomb on Japan on the 6th and 9th of Aug. Also on Aug. 5th Lincoln started the Income Tax. I'd call that a week's worth of history.

Tom, I didn't realize you were 27 when you got hit. And I might add you look pretty good for being 60. Did you get the Viagra we mailed you? My neighbor from the other side of the street want to send something too, however I explained that would be illegal.
Happy birthday.

Stay healthy,
Andy

Paco -

When you quit having birthdays let me know.

Have a good one. I first went to VN 37 years ago and then
again two years later. Boy does the time fly.

I've found four of the guys I served with still having birthdays too.
Two here in Chicago, one in California and another in Lancaster, PA. He all e-mail each other at least once or twice a year or more if time permits.

PACO I wish you the very best and your family. They are very lucky to have a man like you.

So, how many fingers old are you Bud? You know old paratroopers never die,...we just smell that way :D . Hell, as long as they keep puttin' spare parts in ya, you're gonna be around for a long time.

Spent my 20th b'day sitting on an ambush in the POURING rain that nobody showed up for. Back in-country less than a month after my 21st, and back home, and out of the Army, 19 days before my 22nd.

Have a GREAT day, my friend. Glad you made it home to become one of my good friends, Bro.

...an Andy says you sat on that pencil when you was 27 makin you 60, man, we gotta stop lettin' him pour his own, he startin' to pour like you...
...but really, you don't look a day over 65,errr, ah, and 55,45...,.... and that lazer guided walker does wonders with those curb feelers... the umbrella with the antenna, and that flouresent stryofoam ball that matches the one on your truck is a good idea so we can find you after dark, does the rest of the senior home have the same matching colors.... :D
...hip... didn't that go out in the 60's???, how often do you trade it in??? are they high tech too now, 32 ball bearings per offset???
...nah, just different lube-ra-cations to be added daily to maintain audio/visual impact to force from the vertical to horizontial positions after lenghthy attempts to hold 12 oz. weight in stationary position on level surface...you win...
...tip um slowly, and they taste better, last longer, and so do you...
...Happy Birthday, and I hope it's really not true what Fred told me about you, and that sheep, and wading boots near that cliff....

..."Welcome Home"...

Frank, I was thinking of Jerry but thought the memory would be too painful for some of us. Are we not all the greatful dead? What would Gonzo Thompson say? Sorry, that's getting too deep.

Keith, I just counted the hair on one square inch of his head and multiplied by two and came up with the age of 60. Oh wait, if I did that for you... Never mind. How's Alpha doing?

I've got until 6 PM to come up with a present for my wife's anniversary. I need to really fake sincerity. Anyone have an idea???

Stay healthy,
Andy

Andy,
A baby doll and tell her she's still sexy.

or

A set of pots and pans and tell her she is a great cook.

or

A lawn mower and tell her you are too old for the job, its hers now.

or

Take her out to dinner and tell her you love her as much as when you got married. (prefered one.)

My wife always tells me the "perfect birthday" for her would be for me to take her out to dinner and then go dancing.....

But, as usual....I buy her 1 Red Rose, a box of her favorite candy, whisper sweet nothings in her ear....take her out to eat.....and then by the time we are finished eating its too late to go dancing.....good thing too, cuz' I'm afraid I'd make a real fool of myself nowadays.....me dancing - thats a bad visual!!

The lawnmower sounds like a pretty good idea....kinda like a new chainsaw or stainless steel toolbox for the pickup.....but we live on a boat now so I would probably really "catch hell" :D :D :D !!

Happy Late Birthday Tom. I'm sorry I missed the party. My take on fifty something "I'm not gettin' older, I'm gettiin better" that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
