G F R Henderson's " Stonewall Jackson" is a very good book , easily one of the classics on the American Civil War and Stonewall Jackson.Written by an English Colonel in 1898 with excellent maps , it is one of my favorite books. Colonel Henderson was close enough to the war to have noted and quoted the humor that occassionally came out of the troops from those years.
A fine book with a permanent place on the shelf .

I'll definately check it out, another good one is Grant's Cavalryman by Edward G. Longacre. This was the first civil war book i ever read and it really got me hooked.

Is and oldie but a great book by William G. Stevenson. He was a NYC medical student who was caught in the south when the war started. He was told to join the Confederate army or he would be hanged. He served with a Mississippi unit for 13 months and then finally escaped and made his way north. In 1862, he wrote the book recounting his experiences. Stevenson Died in Nyack New York close to where I live. I have started to research his life and found his grave site as well as some articles about him in the Nyack Journal.

Funny thing was, after he escaped north, you would have thought he would have joined the Union army. But he never did. The Veteran's Administration here actually has him listed as a Confederate veteran.

Regards,

Bill
