When I lived in Virginia, I used to hear the War of Northern aggression be referred to as "That Late Unpleasantness".

It has also been referred to as the First Modern war and also characterized as"The last of the old wars, the first of the new."This is also the war that spawned the phrase,"A Rich man's war and a poor man's fight vis-avis the use of purchased substitutes for the draft.

The official U.S. government's name for the war is the "War of The Rebellion," as in the "Official Records of the War of the Rebellion."
