The Vietnamese used to like to eat dogs and that's what's hanging there. Did my AIT for Airborne at Ft. Gordon (11B) the C-119 was on the parade field then. Then went to OCS at Ft. Sill and ended up as an 1193 (FO) but went back to the safety of the 3d SFG at Ft. Bragg and when I finally got to Nam I ended up getting diverted out of 5th Group and given command of a rifle company in the Americal. (Seems there was a "Critical Shortage" of company grade officers - wonder why?)

....Geeee. U bn around!
...I had enlisted for SF...was at Gordon when I got to reading too much and decided against it...was reading about sucj as A-101
(the Khe Sanh area) ...I'm now pretty sure the Army was letting the info out to have the effect..as it did on me , and I'm sure manny others too. ...except it in my case probly coast them more that they had expected... after finding out that something was stinking...I decided to just get the hell out of the Army entirely...
...two courts martials (also a couple of 15s ) ...we came to a standstill... then they offered me a deal ...busted...they sent me to CTK(then new Corrections Training Facility) then sent me to Sill for the 17C...then to Nam
...was that or Levenworth...so I excepted...

Damn, Colonel! That photo is a sure-fire appetite killer. However, I did "chow" down on dog meat in the PI. Some street vendor was selling what appeared to be beef strips which he would put in a bowl of rice and top it off with some kind of hot sauce. A buddy said I should try it as it was delicious. So I did, and he was right. After I ate about half of it he started to laugh and told me what it was fully expecting me to hurl it up. To his surprise I "woolfed" down the rest of it and, anytime I went downtown after that, I'd get a bowl. To this day, though, I can't pass a fire hydrant without wanting to take a wizz!

Of course that wasn't the most exotic food I ever ate. Being a Portagee, I'm used to blood sausage and even taking part in slaughtering the pig when I was only five. My job was to stir the blood as it flowed from the pig's cut throat into a pot to keep it from curdling. My mother had me do that wearing only an old towel around my waist so I wouldn't get my clothes covered with blood stains. Good ol' Ma, always thinking.

Besides game meat I also had a few different kinds of snake, gator, woodchuck, coyote, squirrel, raccoon, basically anything that has walked, crawled, flown or slithered. I'm PETA's worst nightmare!

revwardoc,

I too was in PI and ate "cousin on a stick" after two dozen Magoo's you'd eat anything - And "sailors" have put that to the ulitimate - in some place I've been to. Whew! I don't know how or why I never got sick.

Well guys, that sure as hell is ONE way to resolve the american problem with overpopulation at animal shelters... and want of protein among those living in poverty here.

Hell, as I think about it, that could become a new export product from us. A whole new industry.... help with the balance of payments.

Most of the dead animals at animal shelters in this country go to be rendererd and become part of your pet's food. Look it up on the internet if you don't believe me.

When you were in the PI did you try baloot? I've always taken a sort of perverse pride in trying anything that could be considered edible but I drew the line at baloot. I remember being in downtown Angeles and those street vendors would come around with those damned things! The smell would knock a buzzard off a shit wagon, but the (ahem) ladies we were with would rush out for some and chow down! There wasn't enough magoo on that whole archipelago for me to try that stuff.
