My grandson caught his first fish the other day. Here he is with his 17" large mouth bass. He brought it in on a Scooby-Doo rod-n-reel. Pretty good for a 4-year old.

Here is Harmon again minutes later. After clowning around, he fell backwards into the tub with the fish (note the wet clothes). His daddy laughed, so he started crying. That certainly made for a Kodak moment.

Congrats on your first fish Harmon,"Hooray" and I remember my first catch to this day. It was a nice channel cat caught out of Dry Fork Creek in Salem,Missouri when I was 6 and my Grampa made me a fishing pole out of a car antenna(in the 60's they were sectional) as a joke and I caught the most fish that night 3 Catfish :-)
Tell Harmon to "let me in on his secrets"
Good Catch Harmon, and remember, there are alot more out there.

I recall my early day's fishing. Went with my Dad and Grandpa to a little pond somewhere in Michigan. Sat in the boat for about 7 to 9 hours I didn't catch a thing except for sunburn. I think I was about 8 or 9.
I fished again 30 years later in the Greenriver in WY with the wife and we caught a mass of german browns. Hmmmmm good! But I haven't fished since. I have a poll and a hook so I'm ready if I ever go again but I'm not a fisherman.
But I'm proud of your kid for snatching that fish with his scooby-doo real that's really something. I'd send that photo to the newspaper and put it in his scrap book - after the 1st fish is the one he'll always remember! Good job Dad.
Grandson : congrats.. nice looking..
chili : he is very very very cute
love ya

My first fish (I was 6) was what we call a "kivie" up here in MA, its actually a sunfish. It was a small one but felt like Moby Dick to me. Since then there've been a lot of fish, big and small, fresh and salt, but that first one...
I used to fish quite a bit when I was married for the first time but, after the divorce, its kinda rare for me to dip a line. Hmmm! Do you see a connection?

...tried to make the most of time yesterday as so many projects are kept swinging in the air as to keep me busy rather then the child, but ended up attempting to show him some history by bringing him to the ship (DE-766 USS SLATER) yesterday, but it was closed...
...So in turn, I had a pail of worms that I showed him how to collect the night before, (baskwash the pool filter for a few minutes, and flood a part of the lawn, and up come the nightcrawlers),so I took him to this small lake by the house, and attached one to a trout hook, and all of the bluegil in the lake came over to visit. within a minute, he had a nice 6" one tugging his line, and reeling, and flailing away for a bit, dragged it through the lily pads, and up on shore. stuck in little finger on the fins, and dropped it, flip, flop, flip floping all over...
...dehooked it, and turned it loose, caught several more as the heat was a little too much for him, but made sure HE caught the biggest one for memories...
...I went to my other garage last night for some minor work, and upon returning, he had the Mrs. sitting on a stump in the back yard with two sticks, (imaginary fishing poles with imaginary worms being attached), fishing in the dirt...
...seems to set the tone for a world of wondering...
...now I have to keep him out of my aquarium..............

About 21 years ago, I took my dad and my daughter fishing. It was her first trip. Well as usual we caught next to nothing. However, my daughter got a bite and reeled in a sunny, her first fish. I asked her to hold the fish and let me take a photo of it.
Well, she held it, I snapped the photo and the fish wiggled. Angela screamed bloody murder, dropped the fish and nearly leaped over the side. I dropped the camera grabbed for her and all the while my father was laughing hysterically.
We still have a photo of her in her gear that day. A pair of denim coveralls, sandals and a Yankee cap with an upturned brim. It is one of my fondest memories.
