What kind of machetes / sheath knives were seen in Vietnam ? I saw the curved "rice knife" that the farmers used but rarely ever saw a field knife in their gear.

I don't recall ever seeing anything other than their Attached Bayonets on the AK's. Possibly a pocket knife or two and what we'd call a "kitchen" knife. Never saw a sheath knife on any of them. You don't need a knife to eat rice. Maybe somebody else has seen something different? I was there 68-69 and most of the folks we saw after TET were PAVN, not VC.

Interesting . I saw one homemade sheath knife. It was a short thick blade and only that one. It was in a PAVN pack.
They had to be using a knife ,I have seen wild dogs caught in snares , they were meat hungry . One of those mysteries .
We found a few bodies with longer, very solid knives. They looked remarkably similar to those used by the folks who worked at the Michelin rubber plantation. Always thought that was odd. How could they have gotten them?
Stay healthy,

I found a few knives but not many or often. Most knives found were like the rubber tree scoring knives.
