Old school Vet here. I served in the Army from June 85 till Oct 90 as a 63B2P (Light Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic).

My units were:

C Btry 2/17th FA, 2nd Inf Div Cp Pelham S. Korea (Dec 85-Dec 86)
HHC 2/82 Avn Regt (Abn) 82nd Abn Div (Jan 87-Aug 88)
HHC 1/82 Avn Regt (Abn) 82nd Abn Div (Aug 88- Oct 90)

This site was brought to my attention by the webmaster, so I came over and checked it out. So....Does the Cherry get stuck buying the beer here? :D

Thanks for the welcomes guys. I also run a website with a message board on it for paratroopers. David has awarded my site with the Patriot Website Award. That is how I found this site.

I'll check this place out more when I get time this weekend, I'm on 12 hour shifts so my computer time is very limited.

Jeez! Another guy who likes to jump out of perfectly safe airplanes!

Welcome, from a guy who used to work on those planes; none of which ever crashed, but some had some damned hard landings!

Glad to have you with us.

Please don't torture us with trivia quizes. Like some other 82nd Rigger does. :D

So what you're saying is, you don't know the five points of performance, or the five points of contact? :D

Jumper,

What Keith is saying is...he couldn't find his fourth point of contact with both hands and a flashlight. :D

Keith is our resident "practicing" therapist. He tries to keep us all in line when he's not taking my trivia quizzes which cover any subject that I dream up.

Welcome home Sarge. Glad your feet are back on the ground but you left the plane up there and it's still flying. Did Steve rig the chute for you?
Now let's see, "old school," born in 1966, jump from a perfectly good airplane?
Does not compute.

Hey, young trooper. Wecome. I did some time with the Eighty-Deuce, also [JUL67 - MAY68]; 1/505, 1/17 Cav, and 2/505. Returned to Nam with them in FEB68.

You're going to meet some great people here. Looking forward to seeing you around the site.

I don't know if you was aware of it Frisco Kid, but the 1/17th was a part of the 82nd avn regt. when I served, it's now slated to be transferred from the 82nd to the 101st. It seems the 82nd is now going to use drones for it's scouting missions instead of the Cav.

No, I didn't know. I don't keep up much on either division. I spent a year in combat with the One-Oh-One, so have always felt more of a kinship with them. I do check on them once in awhile. During Nam they had 2/17 Cav with them. Thanks for the info, Bro.

BTW, when the 1/17 was sent to Nam with the 3rd bde, it was only B troop.

DoD has been "butchering" the 82nd for years now. First they took away our armor (3/73rd armor) then they replaced our Apaches with Kiowas (we are just now getting the apaches back) and now they are taking away the 1/17th Cav (most of the scouts will go to the 505th to stay on jump status, but the air crews will go with the birds and lose their jump status)

I've been keeping up with the 82nd ever since I got my first computer and got internet.

Hi, Jumper!

Gracie here. Whenever you make it down to the Outhouse Saloon (now called The Other Bar), I'll make sure you don't buy your first beer. Just posted a fewHalloween photos on the Vietnam forum. Hope to see ya soon.

Love & Kisses,

Gracie

I appreciate the offer Gracie. I haven't been down to Ga. since Jump school in 85, didn't much care for the Red Georgia Clay (can you say "GIG PIT"?). I still have a set of BDU's with the red stains in it from the clay, never could get that shit to wash out.

If you love Georgia red clay, you'll really love Psyco Mountain. We keep Biz bleach & Shout in business.

Love & Kisses,

Gracie
