Glad you're here and pay attention to what Travis says about those "Psyco" guys. They're the best but just a bit dinky dow.
Curious, why nine years active and then out? Nine years is half way to lifer. You were in signal and I spent the majority of my time in STRATCOM where lifer was the norm.

Welcome to the site welder. Did you serve in the Gulf? If so in what unit? I was a 31D working in a LOS V3.

Welder

Yes I was deployed to the Gulf.
We where deployed as an extra Company to 3rd Armoreds 143rd Sig Bn. We where from 17th Sig Bn 22nd Sig Bg
i was a 31 D 10
as a mater of fact before I was sent over seas to Germany, I was a major part of the Armys fielding of M.S.E at Ft Hood. There I was in D-Co 57th sig Bn, and we pretty much LIVED in the field with 13th sig and 141Sig

Truthfully, when I joined the Army I had dreams of going off to fight wars and win all the Medals (Audie Murphy Syndrom).
then I got off an air plain with real ammo and the stark reality set in.. Nov 19 1990.
I asked myself, "What the f-ck did I get myself into THIS time?".
When my great dream of fighting a war became true, it scarred me to death. I never blinked and never complained BUT I swore if I got out of there alive I was 100% done.
That my friend is the truth.

I was with 13th sig and yea we lived in the field. Think we may have saw you guys a couple times when we rotated in and out of the garrison setup. We did all the FOTE and what-not. 90% call completion rate? Hehe, whatever it took to get congress to pass funding ;)

Yup I was there for all that. I think it was called FO&E. then right after that we all went to NTC with you guys.
I remember thay said We where writting the TMs for all that stuff durring the FO&E or FOTE what ever it was called. I know it was winter and cold. I was awareded an ARCOM and an AAM for that field problem got the ARCOM for sitting in a V1 for over 700hrs while recording EVERY SINGLE LITTLE BLINK my equeptment made. AAM was just an "attaboy".

And don't worry about the Psyco Vets but watch out for the sick puppys running around here. They will hijack a thread in a NY minute and never look back.

FOTE = Follow On Testing and Evaluation

Translation = Field test, report, retrofit, repeat ad nauseam

Nice medals, only E-7 and above (who put themselves in for them) got them in my unit lol

Great to have another signal guy around :)

I had my1st MOS, screwed up with my last MOS. I apolagise for any confusion I didnt catch my mistake untill After I had made a post or two.

But HEY once a cable dog all ways a cable dog. (At heart any way)..Less techy stuff.

David

My first team leader was a converted cable dog. Man he could splice anything.

The cable dog MOS was not originally 31D though so I don't see how your first MOS was 31D if you joined in 1983 as the 31D did not exist until 1989.

Also the 31L only worked in the node center, never a V unit so I guess you went 31L after the Gulf for just a short time before you got out?

Don't you believe a word that Psyco Pho writes - the only talking to God that was done on Psyco Mountain Choir Practice and Cookie Bake-off was when some errant members made a sacrifice to the porcelain altar, moaning "Oh God, why did I do that?" And this was after a meteorological miracle, something about some 'lightening' or something!! Just to show you how far gone they are, the served as technical advisors to the movie "Deliverance." And I do mean about pig squealin' and such. Welcome aboard!

You all look like a "Wild Bunch", I may have to trade my 4wheeler in for 2 wheels and go find a mountian some where.

I dont know if I would fit in to well with a Ford truck so I'd have to do a "lil"shoping somewhere first.

As far as Poker? ? That is an adiction, one I find hardto put down. The hooks are in and I see no cure in site.

No, realy, I enjoy poker and play as often as I can. Did you know poker is the reason I even started this quest I am on trying to find pepole that I went to war with and fought beside? ?

Yes Sir.

I was at an online site called pokerstars, all invoved in a game and this dude was entered all so, he had a P.O.W. flag as his avitar and a screen name of some thing like, Tetvet, any way we got to chatting back and forth. After that Game ended I had an over wealming desire to try and find some some or all of my old buddies who stood beside me and was as scarred as Iwas at one time.

A poker game. You live every day, you learn every day, and for 13 or 14 years I lived every day remembering1 year of my lifeall alone. Yup a Poker game, and an old Grunt lite a fire with just a spark.

Anyway if any of you all ever go to this sitean play poker I am , Screen name: 7018 Welder

I would be proud to play any of you.Plus I am pretty good allso so bring your best game when you come. I dont realy like the Texas Hold'em to much I play 7 Stud Mostly.

To make life easy, just take your money and hand it to him

Yo Welder, what up?
I was a welder too through the 70s,mostly pipe. Mostly 6010, 6011 and 70xx Worked mostly in refineries (West Coast) pipelines (Alaska)and offshore (Gulf Coast) finally gave it up when I got tired of setting myself on fire. Then I became a carpenter, ultimately a contractor--its easier work.
Welcome to this site, there's a lot of good people here. Don't let these people drag you off and get you drunk, its a plot

Jerry,

M.S.E stands for Moble Subscriber Equiptment.

M.S.E. replaced the Armys old analog systems in the late 80s and early 90s.. It is all digital and 100% secure.. It replaced a lot of land lines between one site and an other useing eather UHF or SHF radio shots instead.

Your wife and I have some thing kinda in commen, She was at the 16th and I was at there sister Bn the 57th. I was there from 88 to 90..

We can all sit down (after a few 100 beers) and explain it to you in detail. This way, Paco our newly appointed sex crimes detective for the Psyco Vet police dept wont start flexing his muscles. What we do is get him drunk first, take pictures and blackmail the living $hit out of him

Pig roast, armadillo toss, brownie bake off and church social is held on Psyco Mountain in North Georgia near Ellijay, Georgia. We decided several years ago to try and meet a lot of the people on the net so we chartered the Psyco Vets Motorcycle Club so we could have a biker party each year. Not to worry about having a bike, most of the members ride Psyco Psycles. We have a good time. Keep a watch on this channel for posting of the next gathering. You play poker?
