Harold Dean Housker
D/1/506 Inf.
101st Abn Div
KIA 11/26/68

Harold got to our company just a few days after I did in September 1968. We had just moved to Camp Evans and were learning the AO by going on 2 or 3 day patrols in the rolling hills west of our base camp. While on one of these patrols as darkness was approaching, we had a short firefight with the enemy and Harold was KIA by an RPG that exploded near him.

Although only having been in Vietnam a short two and a half months, I had seen combat in the Cu Chi area down in III Corp and witnessed men of our company get wounded but Harold was the first KIA of our company that I had seen since arriving in Vietnam. This day, the war hit home.
