Need help with a book title

About 1985 or 1986 I read a book that was set in this time period or maybe a tad later. For the life of me I cannot think of the title or the author.

It was a thick paperback, probably fiction, but historically accurate.
Seems like the title had the word "forest" but not positive.

I remember mention of Simon Girty, a portrayal of cannibalism by the Huron Indians, and a graphic portrayal of the capture and torture of Col William Crawford in 1782.

The title was something like "Light in the Forest" but I looked at the description of that book on Amazon, and that doesn't seem to be it.

I know this ain't much.
