Hard to think I would march over an open field on dug in troops. Hard to think I would jump out of a trench into machinegun fire. Hard to think I would wander around trying to kill people who were trying to kill me

Neat Confederate Army Map from the Army of Northern Virginia (Robert E Lee's Boys),BTW more Soldiers died here them 3 days (Casualties: 51,112; 23,049 Union and 28,063 Confederate) then during the Whole Iraq War and Afghanistan war put together. If you would have asked General John Bell Hood after the battle if he could accept losses of 3000 men for 3 days of fighting the battle he would have thought you crazy "only losing 3000 troops in 3 days of war?". Today's Soldiers have better odds of surviving the war then any time in the past. The Miracle of the Modern Army. Our Ancestors who served in Americas most bloody war all deserve our respect for the duty they did for their Families, and Country whether North or South they both believed with all their Heart that God was on their side. God bless them that didn't make it and are still on the battlefield in an unmarked grave forever lost to history. And Blessed are those that Made it home to family and hearth. :a:

During my daily commute, I listen to books on tape. Right now its "The Killer Angels". Definately worth the reading or listening.

"Killer Angels" used to be on the "Required" reading list at West Point. I'll bet it still is.

I did things Back-a$$wards. I saw the movie first and got rather annoyed that it did not portray the fighting in the railroad cut or up near Spangler Spring. Then after the fact, I found out that the movie was based on a novel and not real life. I was somewhat mollified, but I would have preferred the whole enchilada.
