Hello all, I'm a former Infantryman in the Canadian Army, and I just stumbled on this site today. I've yet to fully absorb what the Patriot Files does, but it looks promising. Good site.

Welcome aboard!

What we do here is help each other, get together for a party once or twice a year, argue with each other some times, but generally find comfort in being bros' again.

My Scottish Grandfather retired to Vancover Island and was buried there when he passed on in 1960. He had been Black Watch in WWI and then was recalled in 1938 to train men in the Black Watch. He was too old for combat in WWII. I was on Vancover Island in 1958 and it was one of the most gorgeous places I've ever been. Where are you in Souther Ontario? Deb and I are planning a Trans-Canada train trip someday. I would like to avoid Quebec' because of the way Deb and I were treated last time there....but sure we'll have to go at least through it.

Thank-you all for the warm welcome. It's good to be amongst soldiers:) (and it's good to get away from civvies some of the time;)). The Patriot Files is a good place to be.

Packo, I live in Woodstock, at the junction of Highways 401 and 403 (the Trans-Canada of course avoids Southern Ontario except for Ottawa and North Bay). So if you and the wife are trying to avoid Quebec (hey, we Canadians tend to avoid it too - we just go through Upstate NY and on through New England to New Brunswick), you'd still have to make a huge detour from your general axis of advance (by several hundred miles) if you wanted to come on down here.

But, if you did turn south at Ottawa and headed down to Lake Ontario, and then followed the 401 around the Golden Horseshoe, on through Toronto, and then followed the 401 to Woodstock, we've got a good British pub, decent hotels, the largest collection of Christian icons in the world, and the 403 interchange is just east of town that'll start you on your way to Niagara and Upstate NY. There's lots of very good vineyards, wineries, a distillery, and a brewery along the way to the Falls. And lots of fancy restaurants, hotels, and shops in Niagara-on-the-Lake (and a nice view of Fort Niagara on the NY side). And I'd certainly to happy to see you folks if you did happen to detour to Woodstock.

Have you ever been to the RHQ of the Black Watch in Montreal?

Welcome to the site Norfolk....Feel free to post your opinions, and did I fail to mention that Packo was a cross-dresser?

Pay no attention to that little man behind the curtain. His favorite web site is farmlove.com.

We were in Niagra Recently....well early last summer. Actually hated the NY side but the Canadian side was beautiful. If we do the trans-can by train...we'll have to go through Quebec. Many moons ago, I always felt welcome in Quebec. When I took Deb there about 10 years ago, we were treated so bad I swore I'd never go back. We will...if the train goes through, but only then. Man...did they get weird there.

Did not know about the Black Watch RHQ in Montreal. RHQ? Royal Head Quarters? I would love to see it. I am very proud of my grandfathers regiment. They had a bayonet charge in Iraq that freaked out the Iraqi army....and they killed about 40 Iraqi's. Bad ass men in skirts! :)

I will make sure I look it up next time and if we ever get close...or you come South...way South, you are also welcome here.

Sorry DeadlyDaring, didn't mean to leave out the sailors here (or the flyboys for that matter, and especially not the Marines!):i:

Packo, I will take your word that you are not of a deviant persuasion, and I will extend the same benefit of the doubt to b3196.;) I'm sure a group of this calibre does not willingly suffer folks of such inclinations.

RHQ stands for Regimental Headquarters; and RHQ of The Black Watch (http://www.blackwatchcanada.com/en/index.htm) is located at:

The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada
2067 Bleury Street
Montreal, Quebec
Canada H3A 2K2

And I like the South; well, I've only been to Kentucky and Tennessee, and central Florida as well (but Orlando and Dayton just don't count as "Southern"). But someday, before I die, I'd sure like to take an extended tour of the Deep South - South Carolina especially.

Will have the Shrimp and Grits ready and waiting....with a bowl of She-Crab soup!

Thanks for the address...and your right...Orlando ain't the south. South Jersey maybe, but not the South. Last time I was in Florida, I ordered Grits with my meal and got oatmeal. When I complained the waitress said, "...what's the difference?".

I know you're new here but there's 2 things you should never do.
You should always doubt Packo word and never extend the benifit of the doubt to me.
I am of the deviant persuasion....... but just a little bit:)
