The Sparton's were pretty tough guys I hear. Saw two other specials last night on the Rise and Fall of the Sparton's and got a whole new perspective on those guys. Still all and all they were one tough little outfit and stayed that way for 400 years. Eventually they got widdled down by the Athen's Corp. Still once again the movie called 300 was really and eye opener and full of brutality of which I shudder thinking about wacking each other with spears and long blades. Anybody see this? I'm sure you did.

300 Spartans years ago and it was one of my favorites. I'm sure the new one had a ton more special effects. Maybe I'll rent it. The original was very good especially for it's time.

In fact it there were a lot more Greeks at the last stand at Thermopylae than the movies show. Yes, there were 300 Spartans but there were also 700 Thespian volunteers, 400 Thebans that had been pressed into service, and 900 Helots. Not to dimish the role of the Spartans but they had a lot of help.

Also, the Greeks had about 10,000 men at the start of the battle while the Persians fielded an army of about 150,000. Tough odds.
