Fact of the Week:

A famous statue in Baku is that of the “Liberated Woman.” Installed some 90 years ago, this statue depicts a woman casting off her veil.

I had to share this. The statue in the center of town depicts a woman tossing her veil.

Azerbaijani women stopped wearing the traditional Muslim veil (chador) in 1928. This event is actually commemorated by various statues in Baku.
Azerbaijani banned the chadras as the symbols of stupidity and thoughtlessness long ago.

This statue of a woman throwing off her veil is coincidentally right in front of the Iranian Embassy and Haji Sultanli Mosque.
