Where do you live? If you're on the east coast near Virginia, the ship is presently docked at Little Creek Naval Amphibious base. We are seeking volunteers to help maintain the ship. we have people who come from as far away as Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York to attend our work weekends. If you are close by, we provide accomodations on the ship. Its a little cold right now, but in the spring if you are in the mood, you can email Harry Jaeger our Director of Operations and find out when the next work weekend will be. his email address is snafu.manor@verizon.net.

    Hope you can join us.

just read the naval and coast guard overviews on the website and man that ship has some major history. As a person with no naval background, I would have never guessed that a tug boat would be in the middle of WWII helping with maneuvers, saving ships, then turning around and bustind drug ships and saving lives during the middle of the perfect storm. I am definately impressed and want to learn alot more about this ship.

wow...sorry for such a late reply but the website is awesome. I have been quite busy with school and I ended up receiving an A for my research paper on the Wilhelm Gustloff. I think the restoration of the Zuni is very important, and undoubtedly interesting! I cant wait to read up on everything!

visit www.zunimaritime.org and http://photobucket.com/zunitam. They are the foundation sites and photo album respectively. Also we have stored newsletters at www.zunimaritime.4t.com.

We took possession of the ship in April 0f 02 and are trying to preserve it as she was in 1944-45. We're having a tough go of it in this economy but we think she's worth it. feel free to contact me at coastie166@yahoo.com for anymore information.

Hi, I am not in the military, but my grandfather has definately told me his fair share or stories from his time in the Vietnam war. I am studying at Louisiana State Univeristy at Alexandria to have a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in secondary education. I eventually want to become a H.S. teacher and hopefully a College Professor. I would love to talk to as many verterans as possible because you can read as many books and watch as many bibliographies as you want on the history channel, but until you get to hear in detail about life as a soldier, you dont really know.
