Nearly everything in the HD store (I call it the hundred dollar store) is imported and many of the bolt-on parts on a new Harley are built to HD spec and imported. The major components, frame, V-twin engine block and most innards are US manufactured. The prevailing philosophy around is "parts is parts" and are more of a comodity than anything else.

My new bike, a BMW, is similar in component origin but is assembled by Turks working in Germany as guest workers. Same with all brands of German cars and trucks and the program with the Turks seems to work out fairly well. In essence, a Turk emigrates to a pre established job, the German Government keeps a chunk of the wages earned and when the worker goes back to Turkey, they get all the money saved plus interest. I'd think we'd want to look at a program like that with Mexico. But it seems we prefer chaos.
