More information on Mad Cow

Yesterday I had lunch with a Dr. from Saskatchewan, Canada. He is an expert on Mad Cow disease. Told me some startling facts about Mad Cows disease.

1. It is highly resistant to sterilization by heat. Boiling doesn't get it. It may take up to 500 degrees to kill the disease.

2. The beginnings of Mad Cows disease came from New Guinea. It was a disease the cannibals got from eating each other especially brain material. It took several generations but there have been no cases in New Guinea for sometime. They don't know how cows got in England got, still a mystery. They do know that only cows that have eaten high protein feed sublimented with meat from other animals got mad cows disease.

3. There were about 190 people who got mad cows in Great Britian and most of them before it was discovered and diagnosed. Not one case of Mad Cow has been discovered in either Canada or USA.

4. The chances of getting Mad Cow in either Canada or Great Britian would be as great or greater than winning the mega bucks lottery. (But there are winners the Doc said)

5. The more they know the more they will be able to fight the disease, every year they are gaining more information on Mad Cows Disease. It poses no real threat to world health.

Bad stuff happens on feed lots... REALLY bad stuff... which few of us has never smelled. Picture it... in your nose. Picture it, if'n you were ever to have been a beef cattle yourself!

One of my cousins is a field butcher, second generation. They deal mainly with subsistence farmers (and deer hunters in season) who grow maybe one or two beef a year, even taking beefs with anomalies of conformation, just because it puts food on the table and there is no harm.

If'n the government would stay outa the way, if'n corporate ranchers could just hold back a slight hair on their profits for the shareholders a spell... then it would all come back into balance.

C'mon folks... we ALL know the trip is way out of hand.

Let us get real...

Oh yeah MAD COW its not a problem. Its god's way of telling me to go on the Atkins diet but only eat steaks not hamburger. I've been on the diet for two weeks and doing great no taters or bread and no sweets but I'm getting used to it.
