Ron,
You wrote: "NOT ONE Senator, or House members son went anywhere close to VN when VN was going on." This is an untruth. A 1970 study revealed that 28 of 234 sons of Congressional members saw service in Vietnam. I agree it is not all that impressive (less than 10%) but it is more than "NOT ONE" How about Al Gore, His father was a Senator at the time. Regards, PS, I, too have respect for Packy. |
I read or seen that somewhere a long time ago, It may have been before the war was even over, It may have read no Senate or house son seen combat. I don't know and don't care.
Theres a search bar on your Google, You look it up, I was talking to James. |
Ron,
The NVA had a shitload of equipment that they could not use while our air dominated the skies. Had they tried to bring battalions of tanks across the border our B-52's would have turned them into molten puddles. The whole time the Paris "Peace" talks were going on the Soviets and the Chinese, their historical mortal enemy, were sending in everything they needed to eventually take over the South. To me, the slap in the face of the close to 60,000 Americans, was allowing this to happen. Had we kept our massive air power poised to strike, they could have never done it. That's another reason I get so pissed when people say, "Vietnam, the only war the United States has ever lost". Although Iraq and Vietnam are two completely different wars, I see us doing the same thing we did to the Vietnamese, and the Veterans of this war hearing "they lost" for the rest of their lives. Also don't forget that the NVA had a never ending supply line through China and Haiphong Harbor, both we were never allowed to bomb for fear of hitting Soviet, British, and French shipping, all who were supporting the NVA by bringing in supplies, not counting just about every University in this country. We might have left the ARVN with stuff, but we ended up never resupplying them. Also, speaking of supplies, we would have never gotten the stuff we needed if guys like Bob didn't drive through RPG's and ambushes to bring them to us. Their are lots of truck drivers on the Wall. It was on a convoy with my Korean outfit that I got wounded. I learned what it was like to be dead ass in the middle of a 500 meter kill zone in a huge target, with no place to go. The problem with all this is that I do get what your saying about the ARVN, but I would have loved to have seen what would have happened if we wouldn't have pulled the plug on their air support. Hell, I wouldn't have wanted to fight without air. Pack |
Ron
You're too predictable...There was a little side-line bet going as to how long it would take you to drop the F bomb. and you did it in three posts after mine. The F bomb was indirectly directed toward me The good thing is, I broke the record.....The bad thing is, I lost 20 bucks. (I bet you wouldn't do it at all.....How stupid of me) Oh yeah one other thing.....Im not your Bud....Im just the driver who brought you your supplies Bob K |

Truck driver or B-52 pilot, you're still one of my heroes, because I couldn't have done my job without guys like you that have the cajones of giants. Anybody could be an RTO, but it took a real man to drive an ammo/supply truck.

To all posters posting on this page........How's about keeping the fights a little on the clean side, for example no knives, brass knuckles, no hitting below the belt, etc.
Also, be a gentleman when challenging someone, no insults about his mother, wife, sister or any of his other female kin people. Insults about his male kin people is permitted. |

It may be funny to some, like pushing ones buttons and watching the reaction......... gentlemen, take it outside. I would have deleted the whole thread but there is some great stuff in it. Instead I picked out a few offensive posts and deleted those and then added the #@$!#$ to others. I appreciate the question and am grateful and lucky to be able to read some responses. With all do respect, quit arguing...if you have nothing nice to say to each other...........don't say anything. I want to hear from the other people on the site, the ones that visit and have some apprehension about posting. I am sure alot dont post because they dont want to "back up" there stories or be challanged. David and I hope this site can help heal some wounds, lets try to make it that place. Lets be a little nicer, and show a bit more kindness towards each other, and if you cant do that, dont post. Bernadette |

The F-bomb you were talking about wasn't directed to you , so to speak. I said you got to pick a F-un side. That isn't saying anything about you , but you believe what ever you wish. Bud is just an adjective, not a noun. I never expected you to be a bud. You still haven't taken a side though. SS Being an RTO is much easier that being Super at anything. But then, How would you know, All you are is Super, never an RTO. Personally, I take any RTO over a SUPER any day. Ron |
ron, ron, ron
Just to ease your troubled mind, :m: I've also been my own RTO on several occasions, just to give my regular RTO a break. No BFD. So you see, I've been an RTO and I'm still Super, something that you can't say. :D :D
Getting back to the topic at hand, I'd like to go to Vietnam for a round of golf, and to visit the old province capital at Phu Cuong. Would like to compare the Vietnamese cuisine with what I have in Austin frequently. |
