Where I Live
The San Francisco Bay Area's most famous landmark: The Golden Gate Bridge.
The "other" bridge: The San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge.
It's actually two bridges, both anchored to Treasure Island at one end. I live on the Oakland side. That's Alcatraz Island on the left. |
San Francisco is one of the most picturesque cities in the world, attracting millions of visitors per year.
Today Kath and I visited Muir Woods.
It is the only stand of old growth Coastal Redwoods left in the Bay Area.
Muir Woods is about 15mi. from downtown San Francisco across the Golden Gate bridge. Although not as large as the Giant Seqouia Redwoods found further north, many of these Coastal Redwoods are still 200-300ft. tall and almost 2,000yrs. old.
Recently there was a Giant Seqouia Redwood discovered that was well over 400' tall. It's believed to be the largest one left. This would make it the largest living organism on the planet. |
These trees really give you a perspective of how small in so many ways that humans are.
There was no shortage of people willing to take a picture with both of us in it.
And there was no shortage of picturesque spots.
I did have to help with some trail clearing, though. :re:
