The University of Memphis will become the first to offer full scholarships through Folds of Honor.

Folds of Honor is “a 501C-3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational scholarships to the families [of] heroic Americans,” founded by Maj. Dan Rooney. On Memorial Day, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that the first full scholarships would be offered through U of M.

The university currently accepts a limited version of the scholarship, offering about half of yearly tuition costs to the children — under 24 years old — of those who have been severely wounded or killed in their service to our country. Spouses of all ages who have not remarried also qualify.

Neither current nor future qualifying students enrolled at the university will have to pay the roughly $9,700 annual tuition, and additional scholarships will be offered to cover any outstanding fees, tuition, and textbooks. “This sacrifice is remarkable and we need to recognize that,” said University of Memphis President David Rudd. “Our commitment is to cover any gap that exists as a result and to relieve them of that burden.”
