To Those Who Gave Us Their All
 

Born to promise - a spark of light,
In our nation's defense they fought the fight,
With honor and courage, they served with pride,
And for God and Country, there they died.

They asked not for credit, but served beside,
Men of courage who also died,
For this their nation, they lay and bled,
Where many a tear was also shed.

Now they lie down in fields of red,
Where many a boot has also tred,
For they were soldiers - tried and true,
And they fought the fight like many of you.

They ask not for credit, but only a thought,
It was not a medal that they sought,
And now as they lie beneath the blue,
I pray that you yet love them, as much as they loved you!

Memorial Day is almost upon us and thought you guys might like to re-read this poem I wrote back in 2009.

Memorial Day
 

Kathleen and I along with my Daughters - Grand-Daughters and Grandson will pay our respects to those who've fallen like we do each year. I've taken them since they were very small we bring little flags to put by each memorial as we walk the path.

They've grown to understand their family heritage. There Great-Great Grand-Father for WWI, their Great Grand-Father and Uncles who served in WWII and their Uncle's and their Grand-Father who served during Viet Nam.

It's a tradition now that I've passed down to them with the understanding that when I'm gone they will continue to remember those in their family that have served their country in a time of need. I've instilled in them that these men/women that didn't come back have to be remembered as they will never really be gone as long as we remember them in this manner.

This is all I can do and it meant alot to me when they call and say Papa are you picking us up for Memorial Day - do you have the flags and I say yes.

In behalf of my Family and my Wife of 49 years we wish all of those familes who've had relatives lost or served - my heart-felt best wishes and to know their losses will never be forgotten as long as we American's walk this earth. God Bless you all and our Trooper's who are serving today and tomorrow.

Guess that the many once opinionated, out-spoken, patriotic and Quite Friendly Honorable Veteran members are no longer just that?
