Picture I took

Thought some of ya'll might enjoy it. Took it about 30 miles outta town. Was the best I could get. I got one with him facing us but it didn't turn out then he bolted. I have a good zoom, he wasn't that close.

Maybe a dumb question, but is that a coyote?

melody1181 03-15-2008 05:30 PM

That it is Steve.

Nice pic, Mel!

Love seeing pics of Texas.

My very first trip to Texas was in 1955 when I was 9.

Saw my first coyote, first jackrabbit, and first horned toad.

I didn't know WHAT that horned toad was...

...a little dinosaur or something. :D

Horned Toad.

Isn't that a basketball player for Texas Christian. I guess that's a Horned Frog.

I questioned it because we have them up here but they are a lot bulkier and have a lot more fur. Guess that's because of the winters. Nice pic. They're not easy to get.

We've got plenty of coyotes in MA (and I'm not talking about the ones in the State House). Ours are much bigger than that puppy and are often mistaken for wolves.

QM3steve 03-17-2008 12:48 PM

Rev,
They run about 40-60 lbs here some have gotten even larger. You can hear them most every night just off in the woods. There's also been a North American timber wolf in the field next to my house. That's a bit too close with the kids around.

Steve,

A friend used to have (and I emphasize "used to have") 3 cats. When the coyotes started coming around he lost them one by one, and so did everyone else in the area who had cats or small dogs. In one case a coyote attacked a little girl who was standing with her grandfather. The old guy strangled the coyote to death and it was found to be rabid so both the guy and the girl had to undergo rabies shots. Nasty stuff.
