Obama blows off Medal of Honor recipients

Obama blows off Medal of Honor recipients

January 21st, 2009
According to TSO who was at the “Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball”, this newly sworn-in President for the first time in 56 years blew off the ball (that’s 14 Inaugurations).
Some background on the ball;
The American Legion sponsors the ball, which recognizes recipients of Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award. It started in 1953 for President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s first inauguration.
Event co-sponsors include 13 other veterans service organizations, among them the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
So where was our new President instead of honoring Medal of Honor recipients who by some miracle are still alive? According to Huffington Post, this was his schedule for Inaugural celebrations;
Later that day, the Presidential Inaugural Committee will host 10 official inaugural balls:
_ Neighborhood Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
_ Obama Home States (Illinois and Hawaii) Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
_ Biden Home States (Pennsylvania and Delaware) Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
_ Midwest Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
_ Mid-Atlantic Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
_ Western Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
_ Commander in Chief’s Ball at the National Building Museum.
_ Southern Inaugural Ball at the National Guard Armory.
_ Eastern Inaugural Ball at Union Station.
_ Youth Inaugural Ball at the Washington Hilton.
Unofficial balls include:
_ Congressional Black Caucus Inaugural Ball at the Capitol Hilton.
_ Creative Coalition Inaugural Ball at the Harman Center for the Arts.
_ Recording Industry Association of America’s ball for Feeding America.
_ BET’s Inaugural Ball at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
_ Africa on the Potomac inaugural celebration at Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va.
_ American Music Inaugural Ball at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
_ Inaugural Purple Ball at the Fairmont Hotel.
_ Human Rights Campaign’s Equality Ball at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.
_ Inaugural Peace Ball at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.
_ Impact Film Fund ball.

To mark the end of a long day of formal inaugural events and the 2-year campaign, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama attended 10 inaugural celebrations that continued into the wee hours of Wednesday.

Their first dance was at the Neighborhood Ball, under the sounds of Etta James' "At Last," performed by Beyoncé.

Other celebrities at the Neighborhood Ball at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center included Stevie Wonder, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Faith Hill Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, will.i.am. from the Black-Eyes Peas, Sting and Mariah Carey. Movie stars, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, who dashed to DC from London where he was attending the premiere of his latest movie, were also in attendance.

Before the dance, Obama addressed the crowd, which erupted in applause when he entered the room.

"First of all, how good-looking is my wife?" Obama joked.

The president wore white tie, while the First Lady shined in a white, floor-length gown made by 26-year-old New York designer Jason Wu.

For the new President, the first ball was particularly important.

"I cut my teeth doing neighborhood work and this campaign was organized neighborhood by neighborhood," he said.

The second ball -- the Home State Ball, for Illinois and Hawaii - was held at the DC Convention Center.

"Hello, everybody. Aloha. What's going on?" Obama said and thanked many old friends in the crowd, who had been part of the couple's lives for awhile.

The Commander-in-Chief Ball, attended by many veterans and members of the military, was next. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden each saluted the nation's military men and women via satellite.

"It is wonderful to be surrounded by some of the very best and bravest Americans," Obama said. "Your courage, your grace and your patriotism inspire us all."

The First Couple split and Michelle danced with Marine Sergeant Elidio Guillen of Madera, California while the President had as a dance partner Army Sergeant Margaret H. Herrera of San Antonio, Texas, who was overcome by emotion and cried in the president's arms.

The Youth Inaugural Ball, where people between the ages of 18 and 35 gathered, the Home State Ball for Delaware and Pennsylvania, honoring Vice President Joe Biden were next. The night ended with the Obamas making brief appearances at the Mid-Atlantic, Western, Midwest, Southern and Eastern regional balls.

In addition to the Neighborhood Ball, the other nine also featured many stars such as Kid Rock and Kaney West at the Youth Ball, Cheryl Crow at the Midwest one, and Marc Anthony at the Western Ball.

The First Couple's last dance of the night happened shortly after 12:35 am Wednesday at the Eastern Ball.

Crowds waited in long lines to just take a glimpse of the President and Michelle. Those not lucky enough to score a ticket or an invitation could watch on television.

The balls were marked by the tough economic times and the gloom of the financial crisis. Guests who already paid anywhere from USD 75 for a ticket, in addition to thousands more for a trip package, had to buy their own drinks served in small plastic cups. Beer went for USD 6, cocktails for USD 9 and champagne for USD 12.

This is the real story behind the "bash Obama" story that has been circulating. I talked to Craig Roberts, the media relations officer of the American Legion and got an official statement from him. Want to know why Biden was sent in Obama's place? It's all in the article.

Joy,...

Thanks for supplying more info on the top level snub,...for whatever cockamamie reasons.

Still, I was quite surprised that America's Top Suspect of Intent Phony EVER passed-up such
a great opportunity for FURTHER FEIGNING Support of The U.S. Military so-damn-easily,
and/or as normally or usually done by most typical Democrat Wartime Under-miners.

Guess his hacks, confidants, handlers or string-pullers pretty-much screwed-up typically Show Biz-wise and/or in the perpetually Dem Campaigning mode,...on that one?

Old Barack Hussein Obama II or Jr. better straighten out such Inept Phonies.
Hell, after all and before you know it, The American People will actually start waking-up.
Democrats & America's enemies certainly can't have that.

Neil,

Let's see if this will post.

He skipped the 56 year old ball, went to the one for all services that Bush started and invited MOH men away from their ball.

Politics separating warriors.

I suspect the reason is he has no idea what a CMH is.
