J.P.Jones

Saw a program on John Paul Jones last night. What a great military leader. A true hero who truely got screwed by politicians. A writter from the 20's once said, "Show me a hero and I'll write you a tragety." How true, how very sad.

Stay healthy,
Andy

Several years ago his Photograph.....

YES HIS PHOTOGRAPH!!!!!! appeared in Smithsonian Magazine.
It seems that when his Lead Casket was located in Paris in 1907 they opened it to make sure it was him and he was perfectly preserved and identifiable from contemporary paintings of him. He had been immersed in Brandy before the Lead Casket was sealed and photographs were taken of his body. He didn't look all that bad after 100+ years underground. The photograph was part of an article about the final resting places of famous americans. One interesting part was that General "Mad" Anthony Wayne is buried in two places. His flesh is buried near Pittsburgh and his bones are in the church yard at St. David's, PA, (Near Wayne, PA) His son went out in a carriage in the early 1800's to bring his bones back for burial in the family plot after he died in Western Pennsylvania several years before and when they dug him up they found that chemicals in the ground water had preserved him. A doctor had to par-boil the body to get the flesh off so the bones could be boxed up for return to Wayne, PA in a 2 wheeled carriage. (A full length coffin would not have fit) They then re-buried the flesh in the old grave.
