Does each new holiday season leave you racking your brain trying to decide what to buy for family and friends? Why not try visiting one of the many traditional continental style Christmas markets scattered throughout Britain.
The markets feature traditional wooden chalet stalls showcasing a range of handmade gifts including ceramics, candles, glasswork, jewelry and Christmas decorations. Some of the stalls feature a selection of traditional German items from wooden toys, nativity scenes, nutcrackers and marionettes.
Don’t forget the abundance of stalls selling a variety of seasonal delicacies including fine cheeses, cakes, marzipan sweets, breads and more. At the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas market visitors wanting to sample some German delights can enjoy some Gluhwein - a mulled wine, grilled sausages, German beer and fried potatoes. For those driving there is an abundance of delicious hot chocolate to be enjoyed, served in souvenir mugs that you can purchase. Don’t forget to sing along with the bar’s Christmas caroling moose while enjoying your beer and hot chocolate.
Children can try and find Santa’s secret village at the Cologne German Christmas market in London, where children can make edible Christmas cards, watch a show and have their picture taken with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Other markets have a Christmas carousel for both the children and children at heart to enjoy.
While shopping may be their main attraction don’t forget to enjoy the beauty of the celebratory lights and decorations or the merriment of the yuletide atmosphere in the markets.
During the month of December many of the markets will feature live entertainment from pantomimes to choral performances for free.
