I need advice locating medical records

I was not in the 15th Medical Battalion, but I hope someone will help me.<O:p</O:p
I was with Co B 1/7.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

On or about March 10, 1967, I was injured, small injury, while on patrol outside of a LZ in the Bong Son area. I believe the LZ was LZ English, but not sure. I walked to the 15th Medical Battalion, I think Co B. I was x-rayed, a piece of shrapnel was removed, a dressing was put on, giving some pills, and I was sent back to my unit.

<O:p</O:pProblem being is there are no medical records of the event in my Military files. Yes, I have them from St LouisI was treated by B Co 15th Medical Battalion in October 66 and the record is there.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

Did the Battalion keep information of whom and why someone was treated?<O:p</O:p
If so, what were those records called. Please tell me what information/records I should search/ask for.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

Sincerely,<O:p</O:p
David Polley<O:p</O:p

David,

Units do not maintain your medical records after you PCS or ETS. Once you left VN (whether you got out or went on to another assignment) your medical records were forwarded to whatever location was on your orders. Once a person gets out...I dont know where the records go. All I was told was "make copies for your own records because you cant get them after you get out." Don't know if that is really ture...but I have 2 complete copies of mine.

Are you looking for them for a VA claim...or just for personal reasons?

Don,

For a VA claim.

Dave

Don,
I tell everyone that is still active duty to make copies and keep a diary.
Back when I was in the service in 1965-1969 there was no such thing as a photo copying machine.<O:p</O:p
Back then I was young and not so informed. If I new then what I know now I would have filled for a lot of medical problems and more then likely would have been 100% within a short time of discharge.<O:p</O:p
Your help is greatly appreciated,
Dave<O:p</O:p

Were you given a Purple Heart?

No, at that time it was considered friendly fire.
It was, in my words, a small wound. I walked back in from the patrol and went to the medical unit by myself to have it taken care. I have recently talked (emailed) the CO at that time and he remembers me but not the incident.<O:p</O:p

Since you have the NARA records from B Co 15th MB, what else do you need?

vnv6667 08-27-2010 04:55 AM

The records I have from NARA are for when I was treated for emersion foot. I was treated for my wound at the same place. The medical unit was indicated on the treatment record for the emersion foot.

Do you have A CIB?

vnv6667 08-28-2010 08:07 AM

Yes I have a CIB and a Air Medal.
I am also rated 0% service connected, 2006, for a scar received while in Nam. The VBA took my word about the wound and a VA doctor examed the scar.
