.223 caliber effective in open spaces?

How was .223 in Squad Automatic weapon and M-16A2 in the Gulf War ? I've heard a few things but never knew a Gulf War Grunt to ask.

Well basically the 16A2 is the same weapon used for years. One of the things that they have done is make the rounds "hotter" or faster. There are quite a few instances where the round will pass through soft tissue and not slow the target. You really need to hope for a bone shot. Hopefully to the head. If you get a shot that hits bone the hydro-shock that occurs is unreal. Major damage .The SAW light machinegun shoots very rapidly. If i remember correctly it is like 800 - 900 rounds per minute, so if you can get it on target you will neutralize your target. The only thing is you need three men and a boy to carry ammo to you.
