The 50 Best Restaurants of the World were announced at London’s Guildhall in April 2013, with three British entries on the list, including Dinner by Heston in the top ten, at seventh place.

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, in London’s Knightsbridge, draws on recipes inspired by historic British gastronomy. With Blumenthal at the helm guests know to expect something out of the ordinary – and the Meat Fruit starter that sets the scene is no exception: looks like a mandarin, tastes like chicken liver and foie gras. Set lunches are £36 for three courses – not bad for a Michelin-starred restaurant. www.dinnerbyheston.com

The Ledbury, which rose one place this year to number 13 on the list, is a 2 Michelin-starred restaurant in London’s Notting Hill whose head chef Brett Graham hails from Australia. It’s highly rated for its exquisite food, expert cocktails and warm and welcoming atmosphere. www.theledbury.com

Meanwhile The Fat Duck, Heston Blumenthal’s ‘molecular gastronomy’ venture, is at number 33 on the list, located in the ultimate foodie destination, Bray in England (where you’ll also find Michelin-starred The Waterside Inn and Blumenthal’s pub, the Hinds Head. The Fat Duck is famous for its tasting menu, that begins with Nitro Poached Aperitifs and journeys via Snail Porridge and the ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ through 14 courses. www.thefatduck.co.uk

Chef Alain Ducasse was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony: you can sample his legendary cuisine at Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester in London, a 3 Michelin starred restaurant where current seasonal produce reigns, and you’re guaranteed a culinary adventure through taste. From 21-24 May the Chelsea Flower Show menu pays homage to the famous show’s centenary with a floral-inspired menu. www.alainducasse-dorchester.com
