Egyptian pyramids under threat as depraved ISIS barbarians destroy 3,000-year-old temple

ISLAMIC State barbarians have destroyed a 3,000-year-old temple in northern Iraq and threatened to do the same to Egypt's pyramids.

ISIS video of the destruction of Nimrud


A video released by ISIS shows how parts of the city of Nimrud was reduced to ruins after massive explosions in the ancient citadel.

Diggers are also shown bulldozing the ancient Gate of Nergal, part of the historic Nineveh city wall in Mosul.

The savage destruction of one of the world's greatest archaeological and cultural treasures has sparked fears the warped Islamist group could be repeating the devastation wrought on the prized ancient city of Palmyra in Syria.

Nimrud was a 13th century BC Assyrian city, located 20 miles south of Mosul, which the hardline militant group seized control of in June 2014.

In the video, a bearded jihadi claims the destruction is to prevent Muslims from returning to idolatry - or the worship of idols, which is forbidden in Islam.

The group then goes on to warn that Egypt's pyramids would be next to go if the terror group gains access to the world heritage site.

The United Nations confirmed in a statement on Wednesday evening that satellite imagery showed "extensive damage to the main entrance" of the temple of Nabu, the Babylonian god of wisdom.

In March, the historic city of Palmyra was completely recaptured from the clutches of ISIS after an aerial bombing campaign.

Palmyra was home to some of the most extensive ruins of the Roman empire - a Unesco world heritage site often known as the "Pearl of the Desert".


ISIS militants dynamited several monuments last year, but Syria's antiquities chief said that other ancient landmarks were still standing.

The terror group even used Palmyra's ancient amphitheatre as a venue for public executions, including the beheading of the city's 82-year-old former antiquities chief.

I have no sympathy for ISIS - But the 3000 years of history being destroyed has got to hurt their countrymen/women. Without history much is lost ask the Romans - yea right.
