Simple tips to get your car winter ready

Winterizing your vehicle is must for people who wish to decrease the chances of costly problems when the temperatures start to dip towards freezing. According to the National Car Care Council more than seventy percent of motorists in the United States do not take the necessary precautions to winterize their vehicles.
Nick Turmaine an automotive work leader at the RAF Mildenhall Auto Hobby Shop explains that there are several basic steps that motorists can take to prevent future aggravation:
*Test the car’s lights including the headlights, turn signals and rear fog light.
*Check that the windshield wipers are in good working condition. Also check that there is a sufficient amount of windshield wiper fluid in the car.
*Check for damaged, cracked or loose rubber hoses and drive belts.
*Have your antifreeze checked and changed if needed. In the month of November the auto hobby shop is performing antifreeze checks free of charge.
*Check the car tires for proper air pressure. “In most of the American vehicles, drivers can find the recommended air pressure on a label on the inside of driver’s door,” explained Turmaine. If you can’t find it on the door check your owner’s manual.
*Fix any cracks in windshields before any crack becomes larger and the windscreen needs replacing. According to National Windscreens in the United Kingdom most motorists’ vehicle insurers cover most windscreens chip and scratch repairs free.
*Restock and check your car’s emergency kit. Progressive insurance suggest that each kit contain: a first-aid kit, flashlight, batteries, blanket, gloves, ice scraper, small shovel, a spare jacket, reflective vest, jumper cables, flares, water, nonperishable food, duct tape, tool box with screwdrivers and wrenches, fire extinguisher rock salt and reflective triangle.
Now that your car is ready to hit the winter roads it is important to be careful, give yourself more distance between cars and watch your speed. “Its better to get there a little late, then not at all,” adds Turmaine.
