Yankee or Dixie?

Yankee or Dixie?

Check on your dialect and see if you might have crossed over to the "other side"! Simply click on the correct answer. As you go, the quiz will automatically interpret each answer to show you what your answer implies about you. When you are done, press Compute My Score. Your score will be calculated as a percentage: 0% is pure Yankee and 100% is pure Dixie.
Do not change your answer during the test as it will ruin the score. You may do this after scoring is calculated to see the other answers.
If you make a mistake, hit Clear below to restart the test!
I regret that I do not have time to entertain discussions about this test or negotiate changes. It is provided strictly as-is and for entertainment purposes only.
Be aware that television entertainment has a lot of northern dialect in it. This will have more of an influence on you than you expect.
This test is based on results from the Harvard Computer Society Dialect Survey of 30788 respondents.

SparrowHawk62 02-24-2004 11:37 AM

34% (Yankee). A definitive Yankee.

The South will rise again!

Yeah right, just high enough to kiss my Yankee ass!

Dixie

61%. Of course living in Virginia for several years kinda helped. They screwed up on the night before halloween question though. I'have always known it as gate night. Derived from when you would as a prank take off the front gate of somebody's fence and hide it the night before Halloween.

MORTARDUDE 02-24-2004 12:05 PM

travisab1 02-24-2004 12:20 PM

73% deep south Dixie
Travis

BLUEHAWK 02-24-2004 12:27 PM

62% Dixie, which figures... but I gotta say, "You all" is essentially Kentucky, but I recon they count the Blue Grass as Yankee, and "Sack" or "Poke" is the proper Ozark and south way to desribe a bag, don't care what their survey said...

I believe they are counting border states as Yankees... :D

David 02-24-2004 12:29 PM

57% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.

I think growing up in a Navy family and living all around the country accounts for this middle of the road score :cl:

Drifter...

Even though lifelong from New Jersey,...I was very disappointed being: "45% (Yankee) Barely into the Yankee category". Believe Yankees in general are just too overly in awe and unwarrantedly respectful of their authoritarian betters, to my liking. Besides,...I have no betters.

Hell and: "Shit-far (actually: "Fire")", I've always pretty-much considered myself: "A Yankee/Rebel" most of my adult life, which I'm fairly sure that some Good Old Nashville Boys (1-Carter and 2-Sullivans) and good friends from 10th Recon. Co. would attest to,...even from way-back-when Basic at Fort Riley, Kansas or even as trained killers on The NATO Team :D (just jokin) stationed at Kitzingen and later as 3rd Recon Sqdn/7th Cavalry stationed at Bamberg, West Germany.

Neil: "A Yankee/Rebel" :d: :b:
