The Patriot Files Forums - Happy 215th Birthday Coast Guard, August 4, 1790

215 years ago today, Alexander Hamilton, Secretary of Treasury, founded the United States Revenue Cutter Service which was combined with the U.S. Lifesaving Service in 1915 to produce the United States Coast Guard.

Thank you to all past Coasties and Good luck to all present and future Coasties with the added responsibilities since they were absorbed by Homeland Defense.

Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement, Aids to Navigation, Drug Interdiction, Migrant Interdiction, Marine safety Inspection Teams, Oil Pollution prevention and control teams, Port Security Units, Homeland Defense, every theater of War since the Quasi-war with France.Whew!!! Keep up the goodwork!!

We are the Nation's senior sea service having been founded in 1790.The Navy act was passed in 1794 with the first ship to slide into the water in 1797. So for 8 years the Revenue Cutter Service was the only maritime defense force we had.
