Iraq and Afganistan Veterans of America (IAVA) rate Congress

Getting close to election time and if anyone wants to find out how their Congressman (or woman) and Senators voted on legislation regarding military veterans and active military benefits and health care issues you can go to the site below and see how they were evaluated and graded by IAVA,...... IRAQ and AFGANISTAN VETERANS of AMERICA.

The Disabled American Veterans has a similar evaluation of Congress on their web site.

More proof in the pudding of which political party REALLY supports active duty, retired and disabled military vets.

Thank you Lil Sis

You're absolutely right about the job they have done with information on their site.

I hope everyone takes the time to visit it and use it to better evaluate their choices this election day.

Here's what the IAVA is really all about.

Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW): Founded in July 2004, IVAW seeks "to give a voice to the large number of active-duty service people and veterans who are against this war, but [who] are under various pressures to remain silent." It calls for "immediate withdrawal of all occupying forces in Iraq"; "reparations for the pillaging and destruction of Iraq [by American troops] so that ordinary Iraqi people can control their own lives and future"; and "full benefits, adequate healthcare (including mental health), and other supports for returning servicemen and women." According to IVAW, the invasion of Iraq was "based on lies and deception." [Isn't this a Democrat talking point?] As a result of the invasion, says the organization, "The U.S. has lost credibility to much of the world as the defender of liberty and freedom, and our national identity is eroding. ? We need to regain the respect and faith of the global community. This begins by withdrawing our troops from Iraq and helping the Iraqi people rebuild their country and society." IVAW identifies its "most important partner" as Veterans for Peace. It also claims to have "very close relationships" with Military Families Speak Out, Gold Star Families for Peace, and Vietnam Veterans Against the War. "With these partners," says IVAW, "we support the Bring Them Home Now! Campaign." Moreover, IVAW is a steering committee member of the United for Peace and Justice anti-war coalition led by Leslie Cagan, a longtime committed socialist who aligns her politics with those of Fidel Castro's Communist Cuba.

Here's some more info on gimpy's heroes:

Veterans for Peace (VFP): This organization's avowed policy is "to restrain our [U.S.] government" from foreign wars, "to end the arms race and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons," and "to abolish war as an instrument of international policy." VFP maintains close ties to Ramsey Clark's International Action Center and the International ANSWER coalition. In 2003, Veterans For Peace, working in conjunction with Military Families Speak Out, Vietnam Veterans Against the War, and others, launched Bring Them Home Now. In November of that same year, a VFP contingent entered Iraq on a fact-finding mission under the guidance of Global Exchange, whose founder, Medea Benjamin, is a lifelong pro-Castro communist. VFP is a member organization of the Win Without War, United for Peace and Justice, Abolition 2000, and After Downing Street anti-war coalitions.

Scout,

I don't knowmuch about IAVA but the post I read on the site by one of their key contributors a combat medic gave me a little different take on them than the material contained in the information you found. I'll look around the net a little more but a few pages I came acrossleft me with the impressionIAVAhas beenromanced (without much sucess) by some of the folks mentioned inyour post. I'mcurious if these same folks are putting their spin on IAVA.

This commentary from the site is interesting and shows a disagreement withDemocrats,Code Pink and Barbara Boxer for their behavior and comments during a recent visit to Congress.

It certainly appears that the protest groups are linked implicitly or explicitly to Code Pink andother leftists groups. Just because they post something worthwhile, if they do at all, doesn't change the color of their stripes, which are primarily yellow.

Scout,

We are talking about two different groups. IAVA (Iraq and Afganistan Veterans of America) is a completely different entity than IVAW (Iraq Veterans Against The War). IVAW is a protest group and IAVA,as far as I have read, an advocate group just as Disabled American Veterans. I meant to put IAVA in my post and went back and corrected. The link Steve put up is from IAVA (Iraq and Afganistan Veterans of America.)Sis.

Thanks Lil Sis

Now you see why I am attempting to reduce the amount of time and effort I once spent around here in presenting factual information to concerned veterans and/or their family members.

When certain other folks (like our previous poster) revert to obnoxious behavior and untrue accusation(s) that attempt to undermine or destroy the message as well as "shoot" the messenger, it just becomes that much more difficult to continue in any manner that would be beneficial to folks who ARE wanting to be informed accurately!
