Did everyone of relative age get a 'Draft letter'?

Did some people 'get away' with it because they had 'important' jobs or were
'students'.

Re: The Draft

I avoided the draft by enlisting on my 17th birthday. 15 years later the
Draft Board wanted to know why I had never registered. Actually, I could
have argued that I was never subject to Registration; having been in
military service before the statutory age, and having been in Vietnam for 8
months before my 19th birthday. So...... at the age of 34, I was presented
my first draft card, having never registered. I was classed 1-Y
(sufficient prior service)

So, in answer to your question: YES, it is possible to "get away with it".
The hard part is to show a DD-214 as proof.

The up-side is that you can be home in time to watch your neighborhood
buddies sweat the draft.

I got my draft notice while in VietNam. Went something like Your friends and
neighbors have elected you to serve in the Armed Forces of the United
States. You could have floored me.

No, I ran away to Laos.
Who's going to look for a draft
dodger in a war zone ?
I burned my draft card there.

I avoided the draft by going to Vietnam.

If you had any balls, you'd have been born in the Truman
administration.

....speaking of balls, remind me to tell you about 21 beehives at Fort
Rucker.

It's a bee story--you'll like it.
