Tamaroa is now 60 years young

this year marks the 60th anniversary of the launching of the Tamaroa as the USS ZUNI. Though she started out life in haze gray, after 3 years in the Navy she did 48 years in the Coast Guard before decommissioning. We have decided to paint her in her 1950's paint configuration which was a black hull and white supstructure. The reason why is that it is the consensus of all concerned that a black hull is easier to maintain. Besides she looks really sharp in black and they won't let us steam with the racing stripe anyway.See drawing below:

Hat's off,...

...I was watching the one eyed monster yesterday, and the show was the "great storms", featuring the storm of Oct of 91 in which one helocopter went down, and ditched after the crew egressed, it was also the day in which the "Andre Gale " (?) , went down...

...just a hat's of to the Coast Guard, I could not imagine being that ship with 100 FOOT waves, some the largest ever recorded I guess,...

...Have been fishing in Situate (?) Ma. and they said 120 seaside homes just floated out to sea, we were out on a day when it was "everyone to the back of the boat until we get by the sea wall", 15 to 18 foot seas I believe, never puked so much in my entire life, felt like a BB bobber out there, nope, no sir, no mamn, I don't want to join the Coast Guard, and the Navy, but am really glad for those that did,...

...I suppose if I was "shang hi'ed" and tied up, I'd puke for 2-3 months, and die, or get used to it,...

..."C"...

Seat Jerker,

That boat in the 100 foot waves is the Tamaroa, the ship I am helping to save and that I crewed on in 67-68. Thats a photo of her in my previous post. She is docked in Baltimore now. Rode out the recent hurricane well. Many of her former crew went down and helped with the lines to make sure she was ok. We lost one line in the storm but the 7 others held. She's a tough old girl. They don't make them like that anymore.
