General George Weightman

As everyone already know, O.I.C. Walter Reed Hosp Maj. Gen. George Weightman got the ax from Secretary of Army for letting grass grow under his feet by allowing the U.S Army's well known hospital to get in such deplorable condition.
Weightman who lives across the street from W.R was asked by a reporter if he ever walked over to the hospital and did a tour of it on his own to see what condition the hospital was in and if the equipment being used was up to date. His answer was "I don't do house calls".
The reporter should have came back with "means you don't do house calls General, do you do windows" ?

WH,

It was Building 18 that was in disrepair. It was not the Medical Center itself.

MG Weightman may have lived across the street from WRMC but it was LTG Kevin Kiley who lived across the street from Building 18.

I am presently researching the entire problem for an article and would appreciate your source of the quotation. Who was the reporter, when did the conversation take place?

covan..... was listening to 6 am news on New Orleans WWL TV channel 4 which is an affiliate of CBS. Don't recall any reporter's name being mentioned.

It's pretty easy for a reporter to put words in someones mouth, just because a reporter said someone said something , doesn't mean that person did say it.
I would think that Gen. George Weightman would not have said that. And, Nor would I care if he did say it, What is important is if the problem is being fixed. Not what some reporter may have made up to get his/her name out there.

Yea you right on that 39, the problem is being fixed. It only took front page headlines about the problem at Walter Reed in one of the most read newspapers in this Country. Wonder how long it would have taken the Army to do something at WR if the Washington Post wouldn't have mentioned anything about it ?

On ABC news Gen. George Weightman stated he didn't do Barracks Inspections. Whatever happened to the old Commanders Facility Inspections we all used to work weeks to clean up our Barracks and work center to Appease the Generals that inspected every year back in the day??

Not making any excuses for Weightman's performance but he came on board in August 2006. He should have done more sooner. Most responsibility, IMHO is on Kylie. What a bastard.

WH: Tried to do an archives search of the TV station you mentioned and came up dry.

covan......General Weightman could have said barracks, maybe he did. I didn't have my eyes glued to the set, I was busy getting my morning act together when I happen to hear what they was saying.

It may be a small thing but to me general officers should set an example for all to follow.

I watched the NBC News last night and they again featured the Walter Reed story. Interspersed in the story was various footage of LTG Kylie. I think you have to consider these guys (Kylie, Weightman, etc.) are doctors and from my dealing with doctors in the Army they never see themselves as soldiers.

I wish I could find the story that aired so you could see for yourselves. The new combat uniforms with velcro patches must be too much for Kylie. In some photos he had his name tag on the left breast and on others on the right breast. I guess they don't have black EM preparing their uniforms everyday like Patton did. I know, too, that in the past General officers could make their own uniforms so maybe he was making a statement.

I also thought it was unprofessional for Weightman to testify in BDU's.

I agree the general should have appeared in his Class A's before the panel.
