Thanks for the remembrance.

I remember the day as well as I remember the flight of Mercury I and all of the others.

They were heroes who paved the way for the others.

On that date I was getting ready to graduate from Infantry AIT at Fort Ord.

It was a sad for us all.
 
I was just getting ready to go in the Army. I remember that day well.

Gotta feel bad for Gus. Talk about snakebit! He makes a Mercury flight, loses the capsule under controversial circumstances, then is killed while in training for a possible moon landing. Still, he had the balls to volunteer to put his life on the line to further mankind's unquenchable thirst for exploration and to take the next step. Here's to you Gus, and your ill-fated companions.:32:

Ole Gus Grissom was the only one I remember from that flight back in 67' I was just starting school in Springfield Mo and when the Apollo missions happened during school hours we got to see them live on B&W television in the auditorium. God bless the three who served and died together so we could reach the stars :a:
