The Walt Disney Company surprised U.S. troops in Afghanistan this week with special screenings of Marvel Studio’s newest blockbuster film, “Avengers: Endgame.”

The company said in a release on Friday that CEO Bob Iger was prompted to bring the film to troops overseas after Kat Lancaster, the wife of Air Force major who had been away on deployment, pleaded to him on Twitter.

“Hey Bob,” Lancaster wrote in a tweet on April 27, “any chance you could get Endgame to the troops deployed overseas sooner than later? I know Al Udeid and Bagram both have theaters and our folks in uniform could use a morale boost!”

Shortly after the tweet, Iger shared another confirming Disney would be bringing the film to Al Udeid and Bagram.

“We’re going to get @Avengers Endgame to Al Udeid and Bagram next week!” Iger wrote. “Thanks @KatAtDisney for suggesting this! @WaltDisneyCo honors, appreciates & respects our American men & women in the military!”

Iger said in the Friday release that the company was “thrilled to be able to do something special for our troops in Afghanistan, to boost morale and show our gratitude for their service."

“I’m grateful to Kat Lancaster for the great suggestion, and to the Army & Air Force Exchange Service for helping us make this happen,” he added.

According to the company, troops gathered for multiple screenings of the film at Bagram Air Field on Wednesday and Thursday. There are also more showings planned for the troops in Kandahar this weekend, the company said.
